Was the Saturn even on during plugging? It sounds like a voltage leak from the PSU to the shell which then got discharged thru some route. If the Extron also got damaged, then maybe the worst surge came somehow from HDMI side. Without analog expansion card it’s hard to confirm if only HDMI chip is fried, but you could at least check that F1 fuse near HDMI connector is undamaged so that sink receives DDC 5V status.
