I think the problem is that with A-LM the signal is inserted into an output with an active area corresponding to the basic input mode and timings closer to what displays typically accept; 1440p in the case of 480p input with Line 3x applied. Since it can only perform line repetition, with the input sampling set to 448 active lines you get 1344 lines padded to 1440 active lines in the output. A-LM probably doesn’t adjust the active area indicated in the output.
Scaler mode solves the problem at the cost of about a frame of delay. If you set the DFP mode to 1920×1440 and adjust the active sampling preset to 448 active lines, the picture will fill the height of the screen. With GS Sharp scaling you’ll get a picture almost as sharp as with pure integer scaling. You’ll also still get the benefit of horizontal oversampling of the input signal.
