The thing about the EVGA XR1 Lite is that I usually need to first switch back and forth between OSSC profiles for it to register a picture in OBS. It works for most settings I throw at it, though I can sometimes get distortion with certain sample or active window settings on the OSSC side. So yes 480i passthrough works, but you may need to switch…Read more

The OSSC was made at a time when this kind of open source, community-driven converter/scaler project was new. I assume it needed to be cheap and simple to get traction, which it has. People had been using commercial scalers for the longest time and finally with the OSSC we had an open source scaler that did really well for the price, and now that…Read more

I discovered something unexpected but ultimately beneficial when messing with my OSSC settings with a PS2 source. When I change the OSSC TX mode under Output opt. to DVI, the picture clarity improves, and my LG C1 reports the horizontal resolution doubling but not the vertical (from 640x480i in TX HDMI mode to 1280x480i in TX DVI mode). The DVI…Read more

There is an aspect of retro gaming on modern TVs that has been neglected and that I believe the retro community should feel more fire to start working on with a solid gameplan. The issue is of how the imperfect brightness curve (not just level, but shape!) of the typical CRT TV is not translated well to modern HDTVs, which manifests as a flatter…Read more

Just scan mode is on. The LG C1 either stretches the image to 16:9 or forces 4:3 masking pillars and nothing in between, even in original aspect ratio mode. You will of course still see the pixel aspect ratio you want, you just won’t see the full width of the signal unless you want to run it in 1.33 which results in a squeezed pixel aspect ratio.

I will be adding some key points about the various issues I’ve had and my current solutions to them:

-Displays can handle the 720×480 Xbox signal in wildly different ways, meaning that the optimal sampling settings will differ. For my LG C1, I change h. and v. active for the most effective way of stretching the image, while for my old Samsung…Read more
