Nintendo 64 RGB modification – Compatible consoles only! – Only £29.50 (including RGB amp) – Sorry - Not currently available

Have your compatible Nintendo 64 console professionally upgraded to RGB using the best available RGB amp. Note – You MUST check that your console is compatible with this modification before ordering it. Only NTSC consoles with NS1,NUJ1 or NUS-001 serial numbers are compatible, but the only way to know for sure is to open your console. Please check this page for more help determining if your machine is compatible. If you send us a console that is incompatible we will unfortunately have to charge you for return postage. If you have previously had your compatible N64 RGB modded and the picture is too dark, we can also fix/upgrade your console to the new RGB amp.
Once your console is modified, we recommend a Gamecube RGB SCART cable for use with it. You can purchase one here.
Nintendo 64 RGB modification (Otaku Store or Tim Worthington board) – Only £21.65 – Sorry - Not currently available

Your N64 console not compatible with the RGB amp? Fear not, we can fit either Tim Worthington’s N64 RGB upgrade kit or Otaku Stores Universal RGB upgrade kit if you supply them to us. The above price is for fitting only, you must arrange for the appropriate part to be shipped to us.
If you think you may have a N64 compatible with the RGB Amp mod, but you’re not sure, you can purchase the first mod and we will check the console for you. If it’s incompatible, you can then arrange for the Tim Worthington or Otaku Store part to be sent to us and we will refund you the difference.
Nintendo 64 HDMI upgrade – Pre order – Arrives late 2015/early 2016

Have your N64 upgraded to HDMI output with this stunning new mod. The N64 HDMI upgrade is like a custom built XRGB scaler just for your Nintendo 64 console. It can output a variety of resolutions, add scanline overlays and has a very impressive de-blur filter to make N64 graphics sharper than they’ve ever looked before. This is currently a pre-order item, we do not have final pricing on the part yet but expect it to cost around £100 + fitting charge. If you’re interested in this mod please contact me and let me know as I expect stock to be limited initially.

The image quality with the RGB is fantastic, the biggest improvements can be seen when using the N64 on a large LCD TV.
Hi,
What’s the difference between your N64 RGB mod and Vile Tims? Is it only that Tims is universal, any other differences?
It’s universal and costs a lot more. We can fit it for you if you supply it though.
I also have another question, I see you recommend an PAL GC scart cable for use after it has been RGB modded, but considering its an NTSC model console, would that be the best solution? Because this scart NTSC/PAL is a problem with the SNES, right? Isn’t it the same for N64 and GameCube? If not, why is that?
You can use a NTSC SNES cable or a PAL Gamecube SCART cable. There’s no NTSC Gamecube SCART cable, at least not that outputs RGB.
Does both of those give more or less equaliy good picture, or is one slightly better than the other? Is it also possible to use NTSC SNES scart cable on a PAL GC and vice versa?
They are both the same in terms of performance when used with the N64. You can’t use RGB cables on NTSC Gamecubes at all, as it simply doesn’t output RGB. For the PAL GC/NTSC SNES we recommend you use the proper spec cable, though internally the differences between them are minimal.
Ah thanks for all the help, i’ll be back in a few weeks once i get my Nintendo Console screwdrivers and able to know for sure if my machine is capable or not.
What’s the estimate percentage of NTSC N64s that have any of those 3 numbers, NS1,NUJ1 or NUS-001? I see that you don’t accept from any country outside the UK, shame. Norway isn’t very far away… anyways, do you have an answer to my first question? 🙂
Far as I know it was mainly the early models of the console in Japan and the USA only. We can possibly mod consoles for customers in Europe if you agree to pay all postage/courier fees.
Oh and how big chunk of all the versions does the earliest ones make out? Do you also have to open it up to find out if it is one of those codes, is there no other way? If mine isn’t and I want one which is, how do I get one? Because I doubt there exist many sellers of NTSC N64s who has checked this. Anyways, yes if mine is, then i’m willing to pay whatever shipping costs for you to mod it.
Opening it is the only way to know for sure, but if the serial numbers match there is a high probability it’s one of the compatible models. If not, we can still fit Tims N64 RGB board or Otaku Stores RGB 4 All mod if you supply them to us.
I’m sorry could you elaborate on the last part from “if not…” and onwards?
I’ve found out that my machine is a NUS-001 model, however, that’s not enough to be sure right? i’ve ordered screwdrivers required to open it to be sure.
Can you elaborate on what you want me to elaborate on ? 🙂
What is ‘Tims N64 RGB board’ and ‘Otaku Stores RGB 4 All mod’?
RGB mods for all models of N64.
Hi I see it says “Sorry not available” for the n64 RGB mod.
Do you know when it will become available again?
I don’t know at the moment sorry.
Can these now be done to any N64? What would be the price for that?
LewisR (also LewisR on rectrocollect)
No, you need a different, more expensive part to RGB mod other N64s. We can do that if you supply the part (either Tims new RGB mod or Otaku Store).
I would like to know how much you charge for a region free modification?
Sorry we can’t do region free modifications on the N64.
Can you fix NTSC consoles aswell as PAL?
Of course.
I was curious how much you would charge for a RGB mod on N64 with the SCART cable and a region mod so NTSC-J carts will fit?
Region mod isn’t possible, sorry. We don’t sell SCART cables, we recommend Retrogamingcables.co.uk or retro_accessories on eBay. The cost of the RGB mod depends if you need the extra Otaku Store part.
Thanks for the retro gamin cables site. Also by region mod I don’t mean PAL, I play a lot of Japanese versions of games since I am a speedrunner and I either need to change the back of the carts all the time or leave the top of the N64 off (both are annoying). Ok so what if I needed the extra kit how much would the cost be?
Fitting charge either way is £25. That includes return shipping to the UK only.
sorry a few more questions. So its 25 pound + what ever its cost’s for me to send it to you and return it to me. How long does it usually take to get the machine back, a few days or is it something like a week? (I do live in the uk) Do I need to send you all the wire’s control pads etc or just the base unit? this one may seem a bit stupid, how do I go about paying you? (pay pal I would imagine) Just I don’t see a buy now or pay here on the site or have I missed something? Also just thought of this one, with rgb mod once its don’t it will only be able to output rgb and no other signal type eg composite?
cheer’s for reply so quick
No, £25 includes return postage in the UK. Full terms and conditions are here:- https://videogameperfection.com/console-repairs-and-modifications/console-repairsmodifications-terms-of-service/

We don’t require any controllers or other cables. You should still be able to output composite just fine after the mod too (though not sure why you’d want to 🙂 )
Hi heard about your site from a few youtube channel’s. Really been interested (for a while) about getting an RGB mod for my N64 and what the cost would be. I am aware that most (except a french model) pal N64’s cannnot be rgb modded. I do however have a japanese N64. I was wondering if this type of n64 could be moddded, model no. NUS-001 (JPN) also has another code which is NUJ14672266. If there is any other info I would be happy to give it to you but I hope I don’t need to open the machine as I do not have to the means to do this. Also I will need a rgb scart to get the best picture out of the machine, I have a gamecube rgb scart lead would this work? Hope thats not too many questions for you. Cheers
Hi, we can RGB mod any model N64 now. Some models require an extra kit from Otaku store in France, but a NTSC model like that should work just fine with the basic mod. The cost is £25 including return shipping in the UK. A Gamecube SCART should work just fine with it.
Hello Raymond.
So, regardless of what model Nintendo 64 one has (even if it’s the non-French PAL model) you can now modify it so’s the N64 will output in RGB-scart output? My N64 model is NUS-001 (EUR).
Besides the price of actually posting the N64 to you, the price would be £25 to have both the mod & the N64 posted back?
I already have the N64 re-wired S-Video cable from ConsoleGoods.co.uk which has both removed the over-bright picture & improved the quality substantially over composite, but would i see much improvement with RGB-scart?
Is it also possible to mod the PAL N64 to output in component & HDMI?
If your N64 isn’t compatible with the RGB amp mod we can still modify it IF you supply the Otaku store or Tim Worthington universal RGB mods. We do not stock these parts ourselves, you have to provide them to us.
As of March 2015 the price to fit a N64 universal RGB mod is £27. This doesn’t include the mod board itself of course.
If you are using a CRT the improvement is only slight. If you are using an upscaler (XRGB) the improvement is more significant.
It’s not possible to mod the N64 to Component or HDMI. HDMI may be possible in the future. For now, use an upscaler/converter on an RGB modded unit to get HDMI or component.
Hi, we can do that for you no problem, but we’ll need some details about your console first. Please contact us here https://videogameperfection.com/contact-us/ for more information.
Hi there. In speaking with Adam he refferred me to you good sir. I would love to have you solder an RGB modification on my N64. Thanks so much and Ive heard nothing but goos things about your work. 🙂
Region free isn’t possible for the N64 I’m afraid! The closest thing is a Passport Plus adaptor and that’s not compatible with all games.
Hi Raymond, saw adams vid and was interested in possible mods on my N64. Making it region free etc. I have the Pal UK purple edition. It has the stock ram so if you had the ram upgrade that would be great. I live in Ireland, so if you could give me an idea on how much it might cost plus shipping that would be great, many thanks, Steve.
We offer repairs, region mods and RGB mods for the console but we need to know details about your system before we can take an order. I’ll give you a call 9/5/14 and let you know more.
You would be better calling me. I work between 8am – 4:30. I can only use my phone between 1pm/1:30 pm.
On a friday i finish at 3:30.
In a nutshell i have brightness issues with my nintendo 64 when playing it on my HDTV which im aware that it happens. I have temparily fixed it, by accident… So im happy that it works but im not happy that i dont know why and if it breaks … Lets not speak of that!!
Other mods you do for n64? Im keen on knowing what other services you provide for this system.
And just so you know , i seem to have the exact same ‘brightness’ problem with my gamecube.
Please dont hesitate to call after hours if it suits you.
(snipped for privacy)
Andrew
No, that’s not possible yet. I did hear someone was working on an internal scaler that might do this in the future though.
If you have an RGB mod done you could use it with an XRGB scaler. The XRGB Mini has HDMI output.
Can you do an HD mod like HDMI or component video output to an N64?
