You are right, I opened my C64 shortboard 250469 and didn’t realize the ribbon cable connector is soldered directly to the VIC-II adapter and not in a socket, like it is on the RF modulator. Maybe because of the height constraints of the 250469 board – any taller and it would hit the keyboard above. Not sure if its possible to open the connector to replace with a longer cable.

It is not possible to ‘open’ the connector because the clips are close to the PCB. You should break off the top clip and replace with another clip. Or I have another solution: I have some PCBs that go under the VIC II they were made by c0pperdragon GitHub project. I have to assemble a new one and put a longer flat cable in it.

I re-read facebook post, that image I shared above is NOT the VGP kit – the user on facebook built it himself from c0pperdragon’s plans.
