The fact that the symptoms have changed by adding pressure to the socket leads me to believe that you may have a Worn VIC II socket. Commodore were known for saving costs as much as possible.
Does a friend or someone close have a C64 you can plug the board into to test, note you dont need to solder any connection to the mainboard to just use the component out
