What I do instead is to set the phase manually by finding the worst setting that blends pixels the most and then offset the phase from that by 180°. It gives a good approximation of optimal phase.

This in indeed how the firmware could perform sampling phase detection & selection for oversampled sources by monitoring delta between 2 consecutive samples e.g. on G channel (or averaged brightness across all channels). It’s something that has been on my TODO for a while, but has not personally bothered me that much since lack of jitter makes phase selection more forgiving compared to Classic.
