      Hi,

      ran into another problem:
I get no audio output via HDMI from a N64 connected via SCART.
I did not change the audio settings – so AV1 (analog) is selected as “source”.

Is there something wrong with the NTSC RGB cable or does the DExx-vd_isl require some special wiring of the SCART cable?
Anything I can do to troubleshoot the problem?

The console itself outputs audio via the av multi out. I could test it via a regular AV composite cable directly connected to a TV.

        Hey,

I’m not sure our problems are related, but when I get no audio on a TV (it’s playing fine ootb on my LG TV, but not my Sony for some reasons) I toggle some options in “Audio” (24bit/48kHz to 24bit/96kHz and back) and it fixes itself. Worth a try.

          Hi prrdrn,

that did not work for me. There is still no audio.

@everyone: you can find a picture of the setup here, if the audio problem relates to the J2 connector : https://i.imgur.com/Rg6yK17.jpeg
I have tested a different n64 scart cable as well as different TVs / Monitors – still no audio output via HDMI.
What else can I do here?

All boards have been tested at factory so it’d be unsual if audio had just suddenly stopped working. Just to be sure, you haven’t accidentally connected the board on the other side of DE10-Nano at any point during testing? Connecting the 4-pin audio cable on the opposite side can fry the audio ADC chip.

no – I did not connect it any other way as shown in the picture.

regarding “suddenly stopped working”: I am not sure if it ever worked. I only used the scaler with a HAS supergun before, which has direct audio out.
So audio could have been dead on arrival.

Does any PCM1808 chip work as a replacement?

Yeah, I meant stopped between factory and arrival to you. Unless there seems to be anything wrong with the 4-pin cable (which is not the same one used during testing), then I suppose you’d need to ask for a replacement. If you’re handy with electronics, it should be of course possible to debug and fix whatever the issue is. All PCM1808 SKUs should have the same chip package and be compatible, but it’s very unlikely that the chip would have got damaged.

to update this thread: I received a replacement board – now sound is working 🙂
