I’m using an LG 29UM68, which is an ultrawide monitor, and I am trying to get the OSSC to output the Wii’s 480p signal at an anamorphic 16:9 aspect ratio. Looking around, the solution most people use is have their monitor stretch the video to 16:9 and then adjust the H/V Backporch and H/V active so it fits perfectly with no letterboxing/pillarboxing. The problem is, my monitor offers no option to stretch the video to 16:9, only to 21:9, which is far too wide. Is there any way to force the OSSC to output at a full anamorphic 16:9 ratio? If not, could such a feature be added?

As far as I know, the OSSC does not currently have the capability to reshape a 4:3 anamorphic widescreen image to 16:9; and I’m no marqs, but, while it’s likely possible to implement something for this, I can’t imagine it would look good, because the resulting image won’t have square pixels nor an even multiple of square pixels. (I think the horizontal resolution needs to be multiplied by 1.2.)
The OSSC was designed as a low-lag line doubler, not a full-frame scaler like the Framemeister, which can probably handle this task with minimal configuration, but is known for subpar handling of 480p. You’d need at least a full-frame scaler, and, since you already have the OSSC, you could use the OSSC to line-double to 960p, then use the Framemeister or other scaler to stretch it to 16:9 and enlarge to 1080p (with your ~1 frame of lag).

October 8, 2018 at 9:16 PM #23308The Auxiliary Video Information InfoFrame as described in CEA-861 allows information about the aspect ratio to be sent to the display device:
Looking at the source code of the OSSC, the Picture Aspect Ratio is set to “No Data” and the Active Portion Aspect Ratio is set to “Same as Picture Aspect Ratio”. Considering how the ITC flag is transmitted in the InfoFrame as well and can be toggled, it seems reasonable that the ability to modify the Picture Aspect Ratio flag could be added to the firmware. I don’t know whether my (or other peoples) display would actually change its output based on this, but I would be keen to find out.

October 16, 2018 at 11:21 AM #23358Hi! I have that same monitor and I finally decided to make an account here just to I could warn you, our precious LG 29UM68 is VERY susceptible to image “burn in” when using any of the bob deinterlace modes for 480i/576i modes, be warned!
