Hi, I bought this OSSC a couple years ago from retrogamecastle on aliexpress. A bit after I bought ossc add on bitfunx board (a complete waste of time and money by the way, but it the ensamble looks nice). It has worked perfectly until now. I started getting this error (Init error -2), the first time the ossc booted correctly after a power cycle, but the next day it only shows that message and nothing else, I’ve already tried multiple power sources that should work and I get the same message, so it isn’t that.

I don’t have a usb blaster, but I could get my hands on this thing, anyone knows if this can work for a firmware re-install? I really want to fix this since it seems like a simple problem but I have absolutely no programming knowledge sadly.

“Init error -2” means I2C communication with THS7353 chip failed. It’s also the first I2C slave checked so the issue might also be damage in some other chip which drives I2C line(s) low.

Thanks for the reply. Guess that means that’s it for this one, right?

No. Why? You can try to replace the THS7353 (U17). It’s available from LCSC, Mouser, DigiKey and other suppliers:

            https://www.lcsc.com/product-detail/Video-Amplifiers_Texas-Instruments-THS7353PWR_C2652733.html
            https://mou.sr/43rSQvO
            https://www.digikey.com/short/n19p40zd

… and costs around 5 bucks. If you don’t know how to replace it yourself, you can try to give it to someone who does (a friend or a repair shop).

As ‘marqs’ said: there could be something else broken… but it’s a good starting point and it doesn’t cost the earth.
