      Hi Everyone,

I’m trying to connect my Atari 1040 STE to my main work monitor using an OSSC 1.6, but I’m running into a major issue: every mode I use is horizontally stretched. My monitor is an iiyama XCB4594DQSN-B1 (32:9 ultrawide), and unfortunately it does not have any aspect-ratio controls (no 4:3, no 1:1, no “original”, etc.). It always stretches the incoming signal to full width.

I’ve checked various forums, guides, and even spent time troubleshooting with ChatGPT, but so far without success.

My monitor accepts standard VESA resolutions (1080p, 1200p, etc.),
But it does not accept OSSC 1.x line-5x PAL timings (it falls back to 1536×240L),
And even line-4x outputs get stretched, because they’re not “true” VESA formats.

ChatGPT also mentioned that OSSC Pro doesn’t only multiply lines – it can also output the final image in standard, monitor-friendly resolutions with proper pillarboxing. This would theoretically allow me to have:

      Perfect square pixels
      Correct 4:3 aspect ratio
      Centered image
      Black bars on the sides
      without the monitor distorting anything.

Unfortunately, I don’t have space for an additional screen, so I absolutely need to use this ultrawide monitor for both work and retro.

Will the OSSC Pro solve this problem and allow me to get a correct 4:3, non-stretched image from my Atari STE on this ultrawide monitor?

If anyone has tried OSSC Pro with 32:9 monitors or similar setups, I’d really appreciate hearing your experience. Is it worth upgrading?

      Thanks!

Keep in mind that the monitor native resolution is 5120×1440 which is above what most scalers including Ossc Pro can output. Your best bet could be using a mode like 2560×720 (or 2560×1440) and hoping the monitor does decent job of 2x scaling. In Pro’s scaler mode you can set display AR to 32:9 irrespective of output resolution and you should then get properly dimensioned picture.

I have run my OSSC Pro on my ultrawide but I always used the monitors aspect controls, I think it’s kind of wild that an ultrawide without these controls exists, have you checked for new firmware for the monitor? Another option would be to use picture by picture mode which would get you 2 x 16:9 screens (so still the issue of correcting 4:3 but at least we’re getting closer) if your monitor has the ability to do that?

            Thank you both !

I have checked my monitor’s manual and there should be the possibility to change the behavior but it is greyed out for me. I will try to sort it out.

In the worst scenario I guess OSSC Pro should do the trick as marqs mentioned.

I have managed to change the settings of my monitor (display 1:1) and now x5 mode with 1920×1080 resolution looks like this:

              IMG-32-F36083-03-CF-4874-9-B20-E0-F80-FD6-AA11

Now I need to get rid of white edges and it will be perfect.

Will OSSC Pro do anything better than this?
