Topic title basically says it all.

When using a Game Gear tv-out board, it just outputs the native resolution (160×144) in the center of screen, but a lot/most games will have garbage colors and such in the overscan area.

With the current mask settings it doesn’t let you go high enough to cover the horizontal overscan, and the vertical mask is only sufficient for covering the whole vertical overscan if you’ve got it set to line 5x.

        Any consensus on this? 😛
I don’t know what the OSSC firmware looks like code wise, but I’d assume this is probably as minor as changing a couple of values in the code to set a higher limit.

It’s on TODO list, should appear on the next fw.

BTW, isn’t that garbage visible on a CRT? Current mask range should easily cover CRT overscreen area.

Game Gear “overscan” area when using TV-out mods is larger than a normal CRT overscan area. It’s visible even on a CRT. It’s kinda like playing Gameboy games on Super Gameboy, except instead of nice borders you’ve got garbage colors and such depending on the game.

If your display supports zooming in by decreasing H.active and V.active in Advanced timing tweaker then you might be able to cover more with the mask.

Any update on this getting implemented? I still can’t put the horizontal overscan mask higher than 63 pixels on the newest firmware. At line 5x I can raise the vertical mask high enough.

Here’s a picture for reference. CRT on the left, HDTV + OSSC on right
