I have tinkered with the settings and now I am getting good results. Not sure how I can post a screenshot here?
Sample 2x does work, but the difference between on or off is minor but noticable. Had to look closer to see the difference. The picture does look better with the setting on.
Anyway, I think I have adjusted the settings on my ossc optimal for my PS2.
Connected my PS2 by the way through my Marantz SR6014 surround receiver and this receiver upscales the picture. That is the big difference between the ossc and a upscaler I know discovered. Upscaling the picture does look better on my 4K TV, but the picture on my Viewsonic monitor also does look good now after tinkering with the settings on the ossc.
I accidentally changed the ossc osd menu to simple by the way. How do I get it back to normal?
October 10, 2021 at 7:30 PM #49684Howdy! I’ve tried to carefully read through this thread along with some other threads here about using an OSSC with a PC-monitor. I’m writing here in order to make sure that I won’t hit any more snags. Due to a lack of research, I bought a Wii2HDMI-converter in order to play Gamecube-games with a compatible Wii-console. I got the Wii working with my PC-monitor, but only after trying to run Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker through the Wii’s Gamecube-hardware did I realize that even with the Wii2HDMI-adapter, the GC-hardware inside the Wii-console only outputs a 576i-signal. Yes, I have a PAL-region Wii. Here are my questions:
– Because I have a PAL-region Wii, the Gamecube outputs a 576i-signal. Will it work with my PC-monitor, even though it’s impossible for the OSSC to change the Gamecube-hardware’s resolution to something that exactly matches my PC-monitor’s supported resolutions. Also, according to my understanding from VGP’s store page for OSSC, the device is only capable of forming either a 576p-signal or pass the original interlaced signal through. In this thread I noticed people talking about certain settings, which you can use to somehow change the image, but I’m still not sure will I be able to make the settings work on a monitor. The YouTube-channel “My life in Gaming” did mention that generally PC-monitors are more tolerant of oddball resolutions, so I’m hoping it’ll work.
– Since the OSSC has at least some capabilities to somehow make adjustments to the image, will it, in my case, exclude using a Retrotink 2X Pro for my purpose? I’d really enjoy a hassle free plug & play -option. I do understand that the OSSC is more similar to the Retrotink than the Framemeister.I’m in a happy situation right now, because I have two options; I can either buy an OSSC in order to keep my work desk nice and clean. The other option is that I have a possibility to buy a fully working old LCD tv that supports component input. Today I tested my Wii-console with it and it runs Gamecube-games just fine. Don’t know how long will the tv last in good working order though. Still, I’d rather buy the OSSC as long as it works. It’d be a bit tricky to place the old LCD tv somewhere inside my small apartment, where it wouldn’t look totally ugly and out of place 🙁
Thanks for your help!
October 10, 2021 at 10:20 PM #49686It’s a bit of a hassle to go through the setup initially, but I’d recommend to softmod your wii. Then you can force the output to 60Hz (480p or 480i) for your GC games to increase compatibility with your display.
Plus softmod really opens up your wii in so many other ways as well.October 11, 2021 at 5:02 PM #49694Oh nice! Is it a specific softmod? Is there a possibility to make irreversible damage to the Wii-console? I’d like to take good care of it, because I know it has been used quite little. But thanks for the info! I’ll start reading about softmods 🙂
October 11, 2021 at 8:51 PM #49710There is a theoretical risk of bricking your device, but the procedure has been quite streamlined it seems, with packages that lets you do a sequence of mods in a specific order, including creating a backup along the way.
You can read up in advance on one such method at wii.guide.
I cant remember exactly how I did it anymore, it was a couple of years ago, but I started with the letterbomb/hackmii and then just went from there. -
