I encountered a strange problem that happens quite often, but not everytime. When I boot up a PAL game with my N64 the image is very shaky, it seems as the picture is like a wave. This can especially be observed at the edge of the picture, I made a video of this which can be found here.

When this happens sometimes the screen goes black and comes back after a second (red LED does not flash, so sync is not completely gone). The issue can be resolved when I turn the OSSC off and on again, then the picture is calm and without issues. I’ve never encountered this with a NTSC game. What could the reason be?

I’m running a french RGB-modded N64. Until recently I used CSYNC from the S-RGB A chip by connecting it with the Multi AV out through a 470 Ohm resistor for syncing. For testing purposes I then went with Luma-Sync because of the proper 75 Ohm termination, but the issue happens with both kinds of syncing. I’ve already played with the H-PLL Pre- and Post-Coast settings, but I couldn’t resolve the issue. Does anyone have an idea?

How long ago was your console modded and with which amp?

I bought the console already RGB-modded about three years ago. It is the french model where the “offical” RGB-circuitry is already on the PCB and one has to solder just the missing SMD components to restore RGB functionality. I’ve only done the sync mods by myself.

Ah ok, I’ve not had any experience with those particular models unfortunately.
