      Hi,

I find a bit difficult to find updated information about multi-region mods for the n64. I’ve seen mods with or without switches but I’m not sure of their advantages/disadvantages.

As far as I know if you would like to play all kind of original cartridges you would need the 3 consoles (PAL, USA and JAP) since there are some regional lock-outs that cause that not all USA games work in JAP consoles and vice versa, or you could also use a passport device (hard to find and requiring a boot cartridge).

Could you share any opinions about that kind of mod? Since it is not a common mod to see for example in ebay, are there any problems still to be solved?

      Thanks.

N64 region free remains elusive. I know Otaku Store in France managed to pull it off, but I believe they used a CIC/lockout chip from a donor machine. Either way, they never made their mod public so it’d be a case of buying one from them and reverse engineering it, if anyone fancies doing that? 🙂

Another problem is that the PAL N64 is quite far out of spec when forced into NTSC and this can upset some TVs.

I saw you had suggested using a dual frequency oscillator mod to fix this. Have you or are you aware of anyone else that has been able to fit your DFO product to an N64?

Where did you buy such a mod?

No I’m not aware of anyone that’s managed that as of yet.
