I’m in the UK so this may be due to PAL weirdness. If I set my modded Mega Drive (also tested with a modded Saturn) to output 60hz and turn game mode ON on my TV I get a kind of weird screen tearing with my OSSC. This doesn’t happen when game mode is off so I’d assume it’s being corrected somehow by the TV’s post-processing? It doesn’t happen when I leave my consoles on the default 50hz and it also doesn’t happen on another TV that I’ve tried but that TV doesn’t have a game mode setting. I’ve also got one of those cheap metal box SCART to HDMI rubbish things which it doesn’t happen on either.

You can see the issue here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCHaq3Nn7OA

Does anyone have any idea what I could do to fix this?

One thing I haven’t tried yet is playing a Dreamcast/PS2/Xbox etc. game which has 50/60hz mode switch. I’m going to give that a try later but I suspect I’ll get the same result.

Most likely because a PAL Megadrive outputs an off-spec refresh rate when forced to 60hz. See https://videogameperfection.com/2012/06/22/what-causes-games-to-stutter/

Dreamcast, PS2 and Xbox shouldn’t be affected as they output standard timings (except PS2 when playing PS1 software).

Adding a dual frequency oscillator to your Mega Drive should solve the issue – https://videogameperfection.com/products/dual-frequency-oscillator/

Cool, cheers. Would this be the same issue with the Saturn too?

Yes the Saturn is also susceptible to this.
