Hi there, I have a VGP OSSC 1.6 which I have modded to the latest 1.11a firmware about a month ago but recently I can no longer get a signal from it – no grey test screen or component output from my PAL PS2. Prior to this, I was experiencing some dropouts while playing PS2 games where the image would cut out briefly and come back in which I briefly managed to resolve by turning the switch on and off again with the power supply removed but as of today the issue seems to be permanent. I have tested with different HDMI cables and inputs on my monitor but no luck.

I should also mention this issue started around the same time as when I was experiencing black screen lockups with my PC when I could not reset with the case switch and had to directly turn off and on my power strip multiple times. My OSSC was connected to the same strip (OSSC switch turned off just power plugged into the connector) so there might be a possibility of a damaged component? I saw a related post about a blown fuse near the HDMI port and have used a multimeter to check the F2 fuse on my board which is showing a reading of around 2.5 Ohms but am not sure if this indicates damage.

Would appreciate any and all help in fixing this issue, thank you.

Quick update – I have noticed the image returns briefly while holding the OSSC up and at an angle, very flaky signal however and it returns back to a black screen with the slightest adjustment. I want to know if this indicates there is a fault with HDMI port itself? The screen works fine, shows it can sync to the PS2’s input and the menu works too.

I have resoldered the mod wire because I did notice the leg connecting to the resistor pad was a bit loose and have also noticed that U7 gets very warm under the board.

Problem solved! As it turns out the HDMI port had poor solder contacts – pushing down on it slightly causes the image to return consistently.

I can only conclude this is why things were working when the OSSC was positioned at an angle because the HDMI cable was not applying any upward stress to the port unlike when it was laid flat. Reflowing the joints appears to have fixed this for now.
