Hi πŸ™‚ I’m trying to work on some conversion code using the ossc and I was wondering why the fpga inputs from the TVP7002 are 8 bit only as the 7002 outputs 10 bits. I’ve tried to check my board and apparently those pins are connected? (although is pretty hard to see and I’m not sure I’m correct). Can anyone shed a light on the subject? Thank you πŸ™‚

Looking at the schematics, it seems that the two LSBs of each component from the TVP7002 are just floating.

From what I gather, 30-bit color would require more bandwidth and GPIO pins than the FPGA has available.

Hmm I think you are correct. I checked the page with the TVP and saw the pins there but didn’t see the one with the FPGA. I tried to follow the traces on my board and came here asking. Anyway, I think what I wanted to achieve is impossible. My idea was to patch the PCE palette just like the NES/Atari ones for correct RGB colors but I think at the point the RGB signal is output the palette is useless. Oh well, thanks anyway.

They are indeed unused. Main reason is that there was not enough pins on the FPGA (a second set of 6 pins would also be needed on the output interface towards HDMI TX) and it wasn’t originally designed to go much beyond 2x scandoubling.

That makes sense, thank you though for your work on it and for taking the time to answer this πŸ™‚
