Hi,
I bought an OSSC from you guys last month and I have began to run into audio issues. There is a very bad hum/hiss/buzz coming from all 3 input sources, no matter which console I am using.
I didn’t really notice the last few weeks as I had purely been using it with my Dreamcast via VGA and the noise is least noticeable on that source. The volume on the TV had to be turned up to really notice it.
It was only on the weekend gone, when I dug out other consoles and tried them that I noticed the issue.
I tried my Megadrive and Saturn via Scart which gave a terrible buzz. Thinking it might have been cheap cables, I tried my official Dreamcast, PS1/2 & GC Scarts and had the exact same issue with those.
I then decided to test the Component Input with my Wii and sure enough that too had the same the horrible buzz.
To rule out outside interference issues I tried it hooked up to my computuer monitor in a different part of the house and still had the same issue.
Any ideas?
Cheers.
May 6, 2021 at 9:57 AM #47184Analogue sources are susceptible to this (especially SCART cables)..mostly you will get some hum if you really crank the speakers up high and listen for it.
You describe it as hum/hiss/buzz but which is closest, does it change in pitch or anything like that? does it change depending on what’s on the screen? Have you tried using a eg Tacima 6 Way Mains Conditioner?
Given that you’ve tried both component and SCART and are getting the same issue would rule out a short on the SCART connector itself but at this stage we can’t rule out the OSSC altogether.
May 6, 2021 at 5:59 PM #47192Hi, thanks for the reply.
Its hard to describe, its more of a constant loud buzz even at very low volumes on both SCART and Component inputs. The pitch doesn’t change as far as I can tell. It starts when the consoles are powered on and is constant regardless of whats on screen.
And as I said, its less noticeable on VGA input. So much so, I didn’t even notice it the first few weeks playing at a regular volume. It was only when I went back to try VGA again having found the issues with Component and SCART that I noticed it at a much louder volume.
I could live with the VGA low level of noise, but its virtually unusable with the noise on SCART and Component.
…and no, I haven’t tried a mains conditioner (Don’t have one to hand unfortunately) but I really don’t think that’s the issue though as I have never experienced any sort of interference in my home prior.
Until very recently I had everything hooked up in the same spot to an older 1080p Samsung TV that had native SCART, Component and VGA inputs without issue. I upgraded the TV to newer 4K model and as you aware they come without said inputs, hence the need and purchase of the OSSC.
So thats all thats changed.
I’ll try make a quick video over the weekend and upload it here so you can see for yourself.
Thanks.
May 9, 2021 at 3:59 PM #47237Hi, please check out the video links below. Unfortunately my crappy phone didn’t capture it too great, its worse in person, but you can still get a rough idea. Thanks.
May 17, 2021 at 2:01 PM #47399Bump.
I still haven’t been able to resolve this issue.

June 10, 2021 at 3:44 PM #47859Hi, I sent you 2 messages via your contact us page and haven’t heard anything back?
June 13, 2021 at 11:47 AM #47889Strange I just approved one with audio issues for RMA, from Finland, that was not you?
June 13, 2021 at 8:52 PM #47898No I’m in Ireland myself! Have you a direct email address I contact you at to arrange an RMA for my own one? Cheers.
June 14, 2021 at 12:06 PM #47901Are you ok to post your order number here? I’ll then search through and contact you, and let you know here that I sent you an e-mail. Hopefully that’ll then get through whatever spam or filter is blocking things.
June 14, 2021 at 10:30 PM #47914Thanks. My order no. is #46230.
…and also, just to add, I had my brother in law test this out at his house the other week and he too was having the same issue as me on 2 other TVs in different parts of his house. So that probably rules out any outside interference anyway.
June 16, 2021 at 4:44 PM #47933Got it, I replied on 24/05/21 with the return shipping address, I’ll resend that for you.
June 17, 2021 at 8:00 PM #47949Thanks, got that.
