Hi everyone,
I’m seeking advice on my OSSC (v1.6, I think). It stopped working the other night after I plugged a 3.5mm component splitter cable into the 3.5mm audio input port.
Here’s the rundown:
I was using a Dreamcast VGA cable with two loose RCA audio jacks (red/white for stereo audio). I connected those RCA jacks to two of the three RCA connectors on a 3.5mm-to-3x RCA component splitter cable I had lying around rather than using a proper audio splitter (IE designed for component video, not audio).
I plugged the 3.5mm end of the splitter into the OSSC’s audio input (set to AV2 input mode). Shortly after, the OSSC died – no display output. I suspect the video-oriented splitter sent incorrect signals to the audio input, likely damaging the ADC or related circuitry.
The RetroTINK 5X Pro manual’s warning about Y-splitters and video signals causing damage seems to fit the bill here, I noticed it while reading the manual to my new retrotink
“SAFETY WARNING: Using Y-Splitters correctly is safe for audio signals, but using them with video signals may cause damage to your video game console.”
I’m in the UK and open to repair suggestions:
Has anyone fixed an OSSC with similar damage (audio input overload)? Any tips for diagnosing the issue (e.g., checking fuses, ADC, or the 3.5mm jack)? Are there UK-based repair services you’d recommend, or should I try DIY (I have basic soldering skills)? If repair isn’t viable, any leads on used OSSCs in the UK?
I’ve already got a RetroTINK 5X Pro, but I’d love to get the OSSC working again if possible.
Thanks for any advice or recommendations!
Cheers,
