OSSC Hardware Mod: Winbond 25Q16JVSIQ & Firmware 1.xx Upgrade Path

Hello everyone,
I’m looking for some advice regarding a firmware upgrade on my OSSC. I’ve noticed that my unit has the Winbond 25Q16JVSIQ chip.
My mainboard is marked as version 1.7, and I’ve attached photos of the Winbond IC, the current display version, and the board layout below for reference.
I was originally planning to update the firmware, but after reading about potential compatibility issues with certain ICs, I’m a bit hesitant. I am specifically interested in knowing if anyone with this exact hardware revision has successfully performed the necessary hardware modification to run firmware versions above 1.x (such as the recent 1.20 release).
Has anyone here successfully modded this specific board/chip combo? Any tips or “gotchas” I should be aware of before I start soldering?
