Cool. Keep me posted. I’ll stick on 0.77 for now then, and get around to upgrading (and fixing) following tests. 🙂

I had a chance to look into 2 cheap USB blaster clones today which both looked like the ones in previous link (blue stripe in the middle). Internally they were not same, though: the older one had STM32 MCU while the newer had CH552G. Custom firmware was available for the latter, but its PCB was slighly different to this post and lacked marked test points/holes. Shorting D+ to 3.3V before plugging in did not start the bootloader either, but reading more about the chip revealed that it can be alternatively available by shorting pin 3 to GND before plugging. This seemed to start the bootloader for 10sec during which I was able to initiate fw flashing procedure via ch55xtool. After this the programmer was properly recognized in Linux and capable of firmware flashing.

There’s a few caveats as you can see. There is no guarantee that buying one will get you the right model (I guess <$3 ones are best bets). On the other hand any of the clones might work as-is, at least in Windows. Depending on how familiar you are with this kind of tinkering, updating fw on a compatible USB Blaster clone can be quite easy or very frustrating. If that sounds too much work, we could send a pre-programmed one that is checked to work in your preferred environment (Win10/11 or Linux).

Thanks for the update. For ease, I’ve organised a replacement OSSC Pro to be shipped out and then this one returned to VGP, as it was only purchased a few months ago and still under warranty. It also means that this unit can be captured for debugging if so required.

Saves the hassle of finding a reliable flasher for JTAG, and any additional problems this may introduce.

I’ve had some real problems with the latest firmware. When using 0.78 or 0.77, only the test pattern properly gets sent to my displays. I can navigate the OSD just fine on a 15khz CRT or on a 1080p LCD panel, but the actual video from AV4 does not get passed through even though the OSSC Pro’s display appears to be correctly identifying the signal. It’s just a black screen.

I had to roll back to 0.76 in order to use the scaler again (I believe this was the fw it shipped with). Am I doing something wrong? Or perhaps this is a known issue that will be fixed in 0.79.

I think the only HDMI input related change between 0.76 and 0.77 is update of internal EDID, but that’s unlikely to be an issue if sync details are shown on the front OLED. Which HDMI source you are using?

I have an HDMI auto switcher plugged into AV4 on the OSSC Pro. (specifically it’s a Kinivo 550BN) Plugged into that auto switcher is a PS4 (set to only output 480p), a PS3 and a PS Vita TV. I use the OSSC Pro both to line decimate the PS4 to 240p, or upscale the PS3/Vita from 720p to 1080p and for both of these use cases it was nothing but black screens on 0.77 and 0.78. As I write this I realize I should have tried taking the autoswitcher out of the video chain before making my first post. I’ll try to do that this week and report back.

Both the PS3 and PS Vita TV require HDCP to be stripped out to work with the OSSC Pro

The Kinivo 550BN is also my HDCP stripper so I couldn’t test PS3/Vita directly into the OSSC Pro. However the HDMI switch is not the issue, as the PS4 behaves the same way on 0.78 whether it’s through the switch or directly into AV4.

I got one detail wrong, PS3/Vita are black screens with no apparent problem on the front OLED. The 480p PS4 alternates (every second or so) between showing the sync info and “free-run” and the red LED is flashing during this.

One last edit, the MiSTer FPGA’s digital output is working for me on 0.78. (Using Scaler Mode 720×480@31Khz) But that’s every input I have going into it at the moment. So to summarize, I have 3 Sony consoles that don’t work on 0.78 that do work on 0.76, and MiSTer FPGA + my HDMI switch appear to work on every firmware. Sorry, should have checked everything before posting.

On PS4 you can disable HDCP from the menu – does that make any difference?

I didn’t know that option was there, yes, the PS4 works on 0.78 with HDCP toggled off. So it seems the only thing that has changed is that HDMI switch no longer works as an HDCP stripper on the later firmwares.

I guess I’ll have to source a new device to strip out the HDCP.

Tested my PC Vita TV through my HDMI Splitter and it works correctly on the OSSC Pro v0.78
