Hi,
I was curious if a, perhaps strange, use-case would work with the OSSC Pro?
I have a Mister FPGA and I wanted to use the HDMI port with the Direct Video output option to output 240p to the OSSC Pro. Then from the OSSC pro use the HDMI out to a zero lag HDMI to VGA adapter, then RGB scart to my TV.
I think normally, you would go Mister (Direct Video)-> HDMI to VGA adapter -> RGB Scart to TV.
1. Can the OSSC take the Mister Direct Video as an input?
2. Can the OSSC output a similar “Direct Video” signal via HDMI out (240p) so I can hook an HDMI to VGA adapter?
I didn’t think it could, but was looking for a solution that didn’t involve getting the Extra AV Out Expansion card/module.
The use case for what I’m doing is using a core like the Amiga that has a lot of games that run in PAL mode. My gaming CRT TV doesn’t support PAL. So, I wanted to use the OSSC Pro to covert PAL to NTSC.
Here is the type of HDMI to VGA adapter I am talkling about:
If anyone can answer any of my questions, I’d appreciate it!
Cheers!

March 15, 2025 at 5:46 PM #653351) Yes of course.
2) Yes absolutely.
I can’t comment on the HDMI to VGA converter though, they are somewhat hit and miss as far as quality goes, some work great while others have black crush issues.
Note that performing a 50 to 60hz (PAL to NTSC) conversion will result in an image that has a lot of screen tearing. You can also only do this conversion using scaler mode.
March 16, 2025 at 11:08 PM #65339Perfect! Thanks BuckoA51!
March 19, 2025 at 10:05 AM #6535750 to 60Hz conversion will not result to tearing, but stutter instead.
March 19, 2025 at 5:29 PM #65368Yeah, I figured there would be some stuttering or mico-judder or whatever the proper term is.
It would be real nice if I coudl find a replacment tv that handled PAL frquencies, but 36″ Sony Tube TVs are difficult to find these days.
March 22, 2025 at 1:45 AM #65390Got my OSSC Pro today and I’m trying to get things setup. As I mentioned above, I’m trying to go from my Mister using Direct Video to the OSSC Pro. Then out from the OSSC to an HDMI to VGA adapter and then to my TV via RGB Scart.
For testing purposes, I’m trying to get it working with my little PVM (13″ sony). Hooking the VGA Adapter directly to the mister works great. The PVM pops up a little “message” saying 525/60. Which I think makes sense as I’m running NTSC on the mistr menu and on the Amiga Core.
I set the mode to scaler with 240p output and changed the output to CRT. While I do get an image, but it appears to be rolling.
I’ve set the OSSC as:
- Input Select -> AV4 (HDMI)
- Scaler Opt – > CRT Output mode -> 240p
- Scaler Opt – > Output Type -> CRT
- Output Options -> Operating Mode -> Scaler
I think that is about all that I changed.
Any suggestions as to what the proper settings might be, please let me know!
Cheers!
March 22, 2025 at 9:15 AM #65391I’d first loop through the various 240/480i presets in test pattern mode to ensure sync is fine on the PVM. If not, then I’d suspect the adapters (although you could still try tweaking adv. disp timings under output opt).
March 22, 2025 at 5:25 PM #65394If I’m looking in the right spot the lowest resolution test pattern I can choose is 480i, and that still isn’t syncing. I guess I can try another VGA adapter, although the one i have does work directly hooked to the mister. I’ll have to see if I can tinker with the times maybe.
Also, not sure if the power supply that came with the OSSC Pro is faulty or if there is an issue with the OSSC Pro itself. But, when I turn it off, with the remote, I cannot power it back on unless I unplug the power supply from the the OSSC pro and then reconnect it. Hope I don’t have to return it.
One thing I did notice is that when I hook it to my PVM it says 525/50. Not sure why 50hz is getting to my monitor. Not sure if that is a function of the OSSC or what the HDMI-VGA adapter is doing.
I guess I grab another adapter to test with and see if I can adjust any timings to get thigs to sync up.
I could also try the AV Extra Out, when they are back in stock. 🙂

March 30, 2025 at 12:08 PM #65527I have the same issue as Lamprey, I just powered the OSSC Pro for the first time and I can´t find a 240p test pattern, the smallest resolution is 480i and my sony PVM gets the image but it is moving fast, not in sync. A firmware update to 0.78 didn´t bring the 240p test pattern, any idea what to try next?
edit: i am connecting the ossc pro via the external adapter with VGA output, to a VGA to SCART RGB Cable to a sony pvm 2730wm. Connecting the ossc pro via vga adapter to a normal vga to CRT Monitor gives a stable image at 480p, so I think the pvm only takes 240p and surprisingly no 480i what i cannot imagine.

March 30, 2025 at 12:29 PM #65532Press left on the OSSC pro remote when 480i test pattern is displayed to select 288p and then 240p test patterns. Make sure your OSSC Pro is set to composite sync output.

March 30, 2025 at 1:51 PM #65536thanks for the input. When I start the osPro I first arrive on 480p test pattern. Only option left is 480i (720x480i 59,94hz), next left is 1920×540 60. In 480p test pattern mode the menu is only visible in half that´s doesn´t make it easier to see but if i go into scaler options, I can change the output type on CRT, do you mean this with “Make sure your OSSC Pro is set to composite sync output”? Can´t find anything else. Output mode top menu is on 240p (60-120hz) but the test pattern keep not having 288 and 240p.
March 30, 2025 at 1:59 PM #65538Go left a few more times to get to eg 2560×240 (this is a so called CRT “super” resolution).
Composite sync can be set under Expansion opt->Extra AV out mode->RGBCS/RGBS (only applies if using extra AV out card obviously, doesn’t affect DACs).
March 30, 2025 at 2:38 PM #65539Success! I would really never have found that going even further left there was a hidden super high res 2560x240p what the pvm can handle! and the Extra AV out mode->RGBCS/RGBS was also well hidden. I have now a stable image and it´s working good in 720p source to get a 240p and 480i image on the PVM. thanks for the quick input.

Make sure your OSSC Pro is set to composite sync output.
Where is that setting, I cannot seem to find it? Or does that only apply to the Extra AV out?
EDIT: Nevermind, I see that only applies to the Extra AV out. Dangm I hope these come vback in stock soon.

April 25, 2025 at 3:09 PM #65830That only applies to the Extra AV out expansion.
