Hi everyone,
Upscaler is a new territory for me, hopefully someone can help me.
My setup is the Seibu Cup Soccer PCB running on with the HAS Supergun connected through scart cable to the OSSC V1.8 which is connected through HDMI to VGA cable to a VGA CRT monitor.
I get the black screen with the audio in background running for most part of the game using the default settings (game results unplayable). If I tweak the H-PLL Pre-Coast coast values to around 4, I get the black screen for about 2 seconds just in some points of the game that don’t affect the game-play (game results unplayable).
I get a total black screen using a TV LCD.
Please, could anyone suggest a fix to get this game runs with no issue?
I asked a youtuber which doesn’t have any issue with this board using OSSC with an old LCD TV (?)
January 28, 2024 at 9:01 AM #60054What does the front character display say about the signal, and does the green LED stay lit (please also confirm the latter with “240p/288p proc” set Line3x)?
January 29, 2024 at 8:48 AM #60059After messing around for a while I sorted it out. The output to run this hardware with no issues is 240/288p 4x (no others tweaks needed to sort the flashing screen) (previously was 2x). The only issue is that with 4x you get the picture stretched horizontally (it is not 4:3 aspect ratio like you get with 2x), so I stretched it at 4:3 from my screen settings.
Apparently, I can set a specific screen settings for different outputs, but I will confirm it later, I need to go through it properly and see if I can spread every outputs of my arcade machine perfectly at the border of the screen.
Anyone know if by using an lcd screen you get the picture of different outputs spread and centered ?
P.s. answering your question, my output is 288p, 15.98khz, 55.48hz, and the light stayed green even with the black screen. The OSSC display resulted was synched.
January 29, 2024 at 11:09 AM #6006155.48hz is quite far off spec indeed (59.94 is the standard NTSC refresh rate), I am quite surprised that changing to 4x made it work, just one of those strange quirks of compatibility with your particular display I suppose.
You can in some instances centre the image by using the backporch settings in Advanced timing tweaker, but for aspect ratio you’re usually at the mercy of what controls your particular display offers.
January 29, 2024 at 2:02 PM #60063In the majority of the cases we deal with about 59hz, and in that case, I noticed the (arcade) games run and look well without any specific setting. But for some boards, like the Midway ones, the game runs at 54hz… Just for records, only the MK4 runs well at 4x, the others need to run at 2x. Also, CPS1 runs better at 240/288p 2x 4:3 than 384x240p although 384x225p is the original CPS1 resolution
Anyway I messed a bit with the backporch settings but the only thing that changed the position was the OSD (?)
January 30, 2024 at 1:24 PM #60072Are you certain? I can’t really understand how that would happen. It may be that your display won’t tolerate too much adjustment of the back porch though.
