      Hi guys,

I want to get an RGB modded PC engine to use with my OSSC soon, i am new to the PC engine and i know this is a fairly specific question but if anybody can help that would be great.

so i of course would love to have the option to play both the hucard and the CD games but i don’t know if i would be able to afford all at once or even be able to afford a modded duo unit.

so instead i was wondering that if i got an original PC engine unit modded for RGB, and then later on added on the interface unit for the CD, would i be able to pull the RGB out of the PC engine console even for the CD games or does the output NEED to come from the interface unit. I am aware of interface unit mods for RGB but i believe they are lower quality picture-wise and do not remove some of the artifacts and vertical lines on the screen that are often present on these units.

Any help is appreciated, thank you very much

RGB can come from the PC Engine. That is how my system is setup. However, you will need to pull audio from the interface unit. With a CoreGrafx, you get mono audio returning from the IFU to the system and out of the DIN jack on the CoreGrafx, but you have to grab audio from the IFU if you want stereo. I do not know if the PC Engine is wired to get any audio back from the IFU as I do not have one to test with, though.

The IFU has RCA jacks for composite and stereo, so you can get stereo sound from there while getting RGB video from the PCE.

Hi! I know this is an old thread but just wanted to thank you for the information as I was unsure how best to RGB mod my system and it was very hard to determine if the RGB output of the main console would work or if the Interface Unit would need the RGB mod.

I am a fan of non destructive mods so in the end I RGB modified my Core Grafx unit replacing the original 5 pin din socket with an 8 pin din socket leaving it backwards compatible with an original AV lead and no new holes required. I also modified my SCART cable to take the audio output from the interface unit RCA plugs giving me stereo sound as it was definitely mono returning via the IFU to the main system.

Well happy with the results! Looks and sounds awesome.
