      Hi all,

I’m trying to get my steamdeck to display through AV4 with no luck (with official dock), hopefully someone can help with this? It just shows a black screen and no signal info.
From the little i can gather it might be a hdcp issue as i can’t get the ps3 to display either – but ps3 at least shows signal info. Or it could be the edid as steamdeck gaming mode is difficult to set a resolution if not already connected. Do we have a list of edid’s that can be loaded for 720p60 or 1080p60? I tried the 3 included edids with no luck.

Do I need to get a hdcp (or is it cec?) stripper? I’ve seen someone use it for ps3 to strip it so that it can display ok but wondering if this is necessary at all for steamdeck dock. Do i need a stripper to get it to work?

My use case is to get the steamdeck going into av4, downscale and output it via the extra av-out expansi0n with av-adaptor into my pvm (for retro emulated games similar to Mister usage). I’ve got a sample display sooooorta working now on my pvm after much trial and error, but getting av4 to work through it is my next step.

Tried again tonight with the following info:

        • 0.77 firmware – when running steamdeck into av4, av4 shows “free run” and nothing under signal info for the most part (regardless of extra-av-out). Steamdeck is on latest firmware/sw, dock is latest firmware and can confirm all cables work going into tv, just not through ossc pro.
        • can confirm extra-av-out can work for me, i fed through a megadrive and had it showing on both tv and crt at 240p – it even handled the res change in sonic 2.
        • on the rare occasion i can get info, it shows up as 800p which is the default res of steamdeck – my guess is ossc pro can’t handle this resolution but it’s accepting it?
        • on steamdeck desktop mode, it shows up as Ossc Pro as the display and manually setting output to 720p still shows black screen and no signal info.
        • the settings seem to get stuck when using a combination of av4 and extra-av-out – sometimes changing things just won’t affect the output. I would have the output on the CRT stuck to the 480i test image (but still showing menu changes) and I can’t change the position/height/width under scaler. Changing between scaler, pure and adaptive does nothing at times – i would either need to change input or turn off/on the unit to see anything.

Does anyone have a 720p60 edid i can load in the ossc that would force the steamdeck to send that – it might be all i need?

This doesn’t sound like an EDID problem, can you check with Valve if Steam Deck uses HDCP or not?

Do other sources work through AV4 normally (at 1080p or similar)? Isn’t there any way to SSH into the steam deck and set resolution on command line, or at least check which mode it’s trying to output? I could find reports with some people having similar issues with the dock and their TVs, but no idea how widespread the issue is. I posted latest Pro EDID file here – you can use wxEDID or similar to edit it according to your needs but it might be challenging if you are not familiar with EDID structure.

I’ll ask on the steam forums, see if i can find anything for hdcp for it. I know the dock works directly with tv, just outputting a blackscreen to the ossc pro (it shows up as ossc pro as a monitor in desktop mode). As you said Marqs, there seems to be some black screen issues on the dock so it might be a edid combination or hdcp or something that some tvs absolutely hate (and ossc pro). I wonder has anyone else tried this on their ossc pro with official steam dock yet and got it working?

I’ve only tested with a ps3 but reading across the forums i think ps3 doesn’t work without a stripper. I’ll test with my switch and with maybe ps5 over the weekend too.

I’m not familiar with edid editing, but i’m sure i could figure it out with a bit of time to strip it down to 720p60 (or at the very least make sure it has no 800p entry). Do I just put the bin file into a edid folder on the sd card (fat32? exfat?) and it can be loaded from there using the custom loader? is wxEDID a linux app or a windows one?
