Still looking into it, as I’ve said I can’t replicate it here so it’s tricky to track down.

Hi, guys. I just today received my RetroTINK 2X from Mike Chi directly, and I’m seeing the same problem with white flashes.

While I suck too badly at Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts to check the lightning on its second level, the problem is pretty obvious in Star Fox 64. It happens a couple of times when entering Corneria, and every use of smart bomb on Sector Y results in the screen dropping too. I assume it’s the combination of the black background and the white flash/explosion that triggers the ESD protection.

For the record, I’m running RGB from my consoles through a YPbPr transcoder to the RetroTINK 2X.

I’m happy enough to mod/fix mine if somebody can spell out exactly what needs to be done. I’ve been waiting almost three for this thing, so I’m keen to get it sorted ASAP.

Just a dumb thought: If one wanted to add voltage dividers to each input but didn’t want to void the warranty, could one not build an external module of some kind (either a modified cable or a board with jacks) to plug in between the video source and the RetroTINK? I’m wondering if a custom SCART or D-sub cable might be feasible.

A shim of some sort could probably be developed that does this. It would need to have all of the inputs that the RT2X would have, so you can use your existing cables, and, if it didn’t have identical outputs for regular RCA/S-Video cables, it’d need a custom breakout cable, which would probably be best, but a pain to manufacture and drive up costs.

Neither SCART nor D-Sub for use with the RT2X makes sense to me, since it doesn’t support RGB, and ensuring you have the proper cable is going to be a hassle and an unnecessary expense. Perhaps the one thing that might make sense would be an RGB->YPbPr adapter with both SCART and DE-15 input that can send YPbPr to the RT2X; would be good for anything that outputs 15kHz RGB but not YPbPr (So, good for PS1, Genesis, Saturn, SNES, NES; not so good PS2, Dreamcast, unmodded N64, Xbox, GameCube).

Sorry if I’m necro-bumping/posting this thread and if this is old news, but I think I might have figured out what is causing the confusion here at least in regards to the SNES. The different models appear to have different output levels. In my case, I have two that have the SHVC motherboard and one that has an APU motherboard. The SHVC models both apparently have the “hotter” output and therefore experience the issue on white screen flashes, but the APU model doesn’t. I can’t say for the other revisions, but maybe this sheds some light on this.
