I’m using a PS2 for PS1 games with a sync on luma RGB cable which works just fine for PS2 games (and its disgustingly small 480p PAL supported games) The OSSC display shows 314p but nothing on the my TV itself which is a Panasonic TX-L32C20E. I thought my TV didn’t work with line double, so I checked with a Mega Drive which does work (though not in line triple ;_;).
Any clue if there’s some setting tweak that might get it to work?
March 29, 2017 at 10:37 PM #12096PAL PS1 games are incompatible with some displays that have strict tolerance.
March 29, 2017 at 10:44 PM #12097Damn I had just stumbled upon that page earlier, but missed the PS1 part. Ah well.
April 1, 2017 at 9:57 AM #12138I just got PAL PS1 games working on my Panasonic 50 inch by doing this that Cleeg mm the shmups forum suggested:
I increased Vertical active to 300 in advanced 288p timing.
April 1, 2017 at 10:38 AM #12139Unfortunately, on my TV at least, a small bit of the lower part of the screen can’t be seen. I can’t get the picture further up.
April 2, 2017 at 10:59 AM #12156HUGE HUGE thanks Soren (and cleeg), I can confirm setting V active to 299 fixes this issue for me perfectly on the TX-L32C20E. No screen cutoff either from what I can tell.
April 2, 2017 at 11:13 AM #12159Likewise, 300 has fixed the pal ps1 issue I was seeing with my Panasonic GT50 plasma, and backporch 26 recentres the picture vertically. Nice one!
June 12, 2017 at 4:17 PM #13213Just updated to 0.77 and now PS1 games in 314P line double doesn’t work for me anymore.
I tried the same fix as mentioned above, but now it doesn’t work.
In advanced 288p timing settings for version 0.76, these settings work:
V. Active 300
H. Active 720
H synclen 60
H sample rate 864
V backporch 15
H backporch 65I tried doing the same settings on 0.77. This didn’t work either.
My tv is the Panasonic TX-50CS630E.Anyone have any tips?
For now, I’ve reverted to 0.76.
June 12, 2017 at 5:51 PM #13216The setting above are somewhat invalid (v.active + v.backporch > 314) so it’s more or less a coincidence it works with the older firmware. With 0.77, you might want try keeping V.active at 300 but setting V.backporch and V.synclen so that they are less than 14 combined.
August 30, 2017 at 4:03 PM #14835I’ve just updated to 0.78 after installing the sound module and have encountered the same issue – pal PS1 will no longer show on my Panasonic plasma.
Did anyone ever resolve this issue? What’s the reason 0.76 worked and 0.77/78 now don’t?
September 3, 2017 at 12:01 AM #14900Yeah, I can confirm it stopped working for me too. I tried some of marqs’s suggested tweaks above but they didn’t seem to work either. Pretty annoying, but I think it might be better to buy a new monitor than try to fix this, because there’s just gonna be more issues down the road I’d presume.
But yeah, reverting is probably the best option for now unless some setting tweak to change the behavior on .77/8 to the .76 one is somehow possible.
July 5, 2018 at 6:37 PM #22318Any progress on this one? I’m experiencing same on my Sony Bravia 50″
Gotta revert to 0.76 still?August 14, 2018 at 6:11 PM #22779Anyone ever figure this out?
August 14, 2018 at 6:33 PM #22780I haven’t. Every firmware since 0.76 does not work with ps1/ps2 pal titles with my Panasonic plasma so have reverted to 0.76 each time.
August 14, 2018 at 11:01 PM #22786For some reason those reported displays seem to accept 628-line signal if sync/enable signal is formatted somewhat incorrectly (as can be done with the posted settings on 0.76). I’d need check resulting timings and then perhaps provide a compatiblity option to enable such deranged sync on later fw.
