      This last black friday I purchased a Retrotink 2x Pro to upgrade from my Retrotink 2x v3.1. To my surprise the pro is much noisier. There is very visible vertical rolling noise coming from the pro.

      My TV under test has had all post processing disabled as much as possible and is running in game mode. To test I first attached my svideo cable directly to a framemeister and observed no noise. Next I attached to my older v3.1 retrotink 2x in passthrough, then to a dac, finally back to the framemeister and observed almost imperceivable noise. If you’re sitting back a few feet you can’t tell. Next I attached the retrotink 2x v3.1 directly to the tv with a 2x scale and observed near imperceivable noise. Repeating the previous two experiments with the pro yielded noticable vertical rolling noise. The power supplies are the same in these tests between the retrotinks. I have tried alternate power sources with the same results. The hdmi cable from the pro has also been swapped and is better shielded than the non-pro.

      I also tested connecting the retrotinks to an ossc and gbs8200 with the exact same results. There are no switches in this test setup.

      Is this normal? Has anyone else compared using a n64 or Gamecube with svideo?

        Have you updated the device to the latest firmware?

          Yes. I am on v1.6. After running more tests with the 240p test suite I noticed significantly decreased flicker on the pro compared to the non-pro v3.1. However, the noise is still present when observing a solid color screen, like the blue gray on an Everdrive 64 default menu.

            Several more tests have been run to reduce the noise from the pro in my current chain of devices for svideo connections,

            RT2X Pro -> GBS8200 -> OSSC -> Framemeister

            Unsurprisingly shorter hdmi cables with ferrite cores minimally reduce the noise. Solid color screens with darker colors show the noise more pronounced than lighter colors.

            My next steps are two ensure all my cables in the chain are as shielded as they can reasonably be with ferrite cores/attachments.

              New cables and switching TVs didn’t fix the issue. A redditor was nice enough to check their RT2X Pro and observed no issue. I guess I got a bad unit. Returning and retesting when a replacement is received.

                Just received a replacement RT2X Pro from StoneAgeGamer and so far it looks good with no additional noise on the default and latest v1.6 firmware. I must have gotten a bad unit originally as I’ve changed nothing in my setup since my last trials.
