On my Bush Flatscreen TV DLED32165HDDVD the “arcade” scanlines look great whenever I’m using passthru with my Slimline PS2. But anything outside that mode then the scanlines @ 6% are not discernable. I can see they’re on because the screen dims at higher strength setting but there are just not any lines apart from an almost indiscernible cross hatching in places. At 100% strength I’m able to see that the scanlines have become distorted. I’ve tried resetting settings and adjusting V.active and H.active. I have not yet done any calibration with 240 suite.

      Photo’s …

Generally interlace content does not have visible, 240p style blank scanlines (though it depends on the kind of CRT tube you were using). Since the fields are alternating you would on most consumer sets really have to concentrate to see the scanlines.

OK, however I was using progressive video output from the PS2.

The PlayStation 2’s menu as shown in your screenshots runs at 480i (NTSC) or 576i (PAL) interlace.

OK, thanks, got confused. Scanlines are back now in 576p. So the PS2 never really had “scanlines” as such ? Might just be my own personal taste but scanlines seem to clean up the image a lot leading to better immersion.
