As I was tinkering with the image on my SNES, I paused a game to flip through line multipliers and scanlines. Once I had the image where I wanted it, I tried resuming the game but the controls were all messed up, like pressing up was start and I couldn’t move left or right. This was fixed by powering off the system and restarting, but I’m curious what causes that issue?

I was able to replicate with Super Mario World and Super Adventure Island (both NTSC). In the case of Super Adventure Island, I tried two controllers. One had incorrect button input, the other registered no button input. I tested both controllers to see if they were faulty and there were no issues with either of them. As long as I don’t pause the game and change the line multiplication, both controllers work fine. It’s not a game killer because once I set the display the way I want it, I won’t be changing it. More or less just curious about what is going on. Did I find a bug?
