      Hi all,

In a bid to nail down some interference issues with my setup, I’ve recently purchased a better power strip (a Belkin model).

This strip happens to have two USB ports, rated at 12 watts/2.4amp (which, if I’m right, means that’s 5V as well, correct?). So, I was wondering if it was possible to use these two ports to power my OSSC and Framemeister, using the following cables?

Framemeister – USB to 4mm x 1.7mm centre pin positive

OSSC – USB to 5.5mm x 2.1mm centre pin positive

Would this work safely? Is anyone else powering their OSSC/Framemeister devices via USB in this way?

OSSC should work okay as long as there’s 1 amp from the USB port, with 2.4 you’ve got more than enough.

I would imagine the FM will work with that too (I don’t have mine handy to check but can’t imagine that wasn’t enough).

USB won’t magically be noise free of course.

Thanks – I think some experimentation might be necessary! This power strip does supposedly have a power filter, so hopefully, that might help.

I’ll order some USB cables, make some video quality tests and document them here.

Well, while I haven’t had time to take comparison screenshots, I’ve been using my OSSC & Framemeister together (I use the Framemeister to “normalise” the OSSC output to something my Elgato HD60s unit can capture), powering them through separate USB cables straight into the Belkin power strip, and as far as I can tell there are no detrimental effects to the video quality.

Quite an elegant solution really, and it certainly gives me back two power sockets I can use for my consoles 🙂
