OK, so I’m considering getting a RetroTINK 5X. But the product description says: ‘Do not use TTL CSYNC or anything with a sync stripper in it.’ My RGB-modified N64, Sega Saturn, and original Xbox all use RGB with Csync via built-in sync stripper. Is there a risk of damaging the RT5X if I plugged them in? For me it would mean having to invest in replacement cables. Would the OSSC Pro be more geared to handle sync strippers?

You should not use TTL sync with the OSSC either on AV1/SCART. What was the reason for using sync strippers in those cables, for Extron compatibility?

Was a personal preference. With consoles that only natively supported sync on composite, I bought SCART cables with build in sync strippers to avoid video noise in my recordings.

Sync strippers won’t make any difference to picture noise unless there’s some particular quirk of the hardware you’re connecting to (like e.g XRGB3).

If you’re sure that your hardware is outputting the correct 75 ohm sync through the sync stripper then you can’t damage the RetroTINK 5x. If you’re not (e.g if the cable was made a long time ago or by a non reputable manufacturer) then I’d suggest finding out or simply replacing the cables with luma sync ones as they could damage any consumer grade hardware, not just RetroTINK 5x.

All my SCART leads were purchased from retrogamingcables.co.uk, nothing to fear then?

Usually no, unless they were purchased a long time ago before people really knew about the difference between TTL and 75 ohm csync.
