I would think a simple, straightforward $10~$25 add-on would be more ideal than spending a pile of money on a significantly bulkier setup that goes from component to SCART and then back to component again.

Yeah, of course. I’m not advocating for SCART—I’ve just used it myself to minimize the DIY work involved.

I’m using RCA-to-SCART adaptors like those at the moment (hence the current lack of audio), but soon I’ll be using one of these cables at each end. The downside there is that I’ll effectively have 3 m of cable when I need only about 0.5 m, but there are bigger problems in the world.

Ideally, I think a cable that looks similar to an HD Retrovision cable (but shorter and with RCA/S-video at each end) would be the way to go. While a box with all the separate input and output jacks would also be in option, it’d probably end up being larger than the 2X itself, so that wouldn’t be ideal.

Those screenshots look suspiciously like a YPbPr picture with the Pr (red) cable disconnected. Does the picture look exactly the same with the red cable unplugged? If only the Pb (blue) cable is unplugged, is the picture in greyscale?

Just a dumb thought: If one wanted to add voltage dividers to each input but didn’t want to void the warranty, could one not build an external module of some kind (either a modified cable or a board with jacks) to plug in between the video source and the RetroTINK? I’m wondering if a custom SCART or D-sub cable might be feasible.

Hi, guys. I just today received my RetroTINK 2X from Mike Chi directly, and I’m seeing the same problem with white flashes.

While I suck too badly at Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts to check the lightning on its second level, the problem is pretty obvious in Star Fox 64. It happens a couple of times when entering Corneria, and every use of smart bomb on Sector Y results in the screen dropping too. I assume it’s the combination of the black background and the white flash/explosion that triggers the ESD protection.

For the record, I’m running RGB from my consoles through a YPbPr transcoder to the RetroTINK 2X.

I’m happy enough to mod/fix mine if somebody can spell out exactly what needs to be done. I’ve been waiting almost three for this thing, so I’m keen to get it sorted ASAP.
