      I don’t know whether my (or other peoples) display would actually change its output based on this, but I would be keen to find out.

      I don’t have any way of testing it at the moment.

        The Auxiliary Video Information InfoFrame as described in CEA-861 allows information about the aspect ratio to be sent to the display device:

        Looking at the source code of the OSSC, the Picture Aspect Ratio is set to “No Data” and the Active Portion Aspect Ratio is set to “Same as Picture Aspect Ratio”. Considering how the ITC flag is transmitted in the InfoFrame as well and can be toggled, it seems reasonable that the ability to modify the Picture Aspect Ratio flag could be added to the firmware. I don’t know whether my (or other peoples) display would actually change its output based on this, but I would be keen to find out.
