If I may offer my two cents worth, I’ve noticed that that 288p compatibility varies wildly with the mClassic. Obviously with the OSSC it only works with the 480p or 576p 2X mode. I tested the mClassic with PS2 and Wii HDMI adapters, both of which are just straight analog to digital converters without any upscaling. Playing Driver on the PS2, the mClassic recognized the 288p gameplay signal. But the anti-aliasing produced horrendous ringing artifacts around the graphics, almost as though I was looking at a heavily compressed jpg image. I also tested my Wii Virtual Console copy of Sonic The Hedgehog for Sega Master System through the Wii2HDMI. The entire image seemed to have been shifted on the vertical access, to the point that the upper part of the image was cropped by the top of the screen and coming up through the bottom. But for Wii Sports running in 480p, it looked fine.

With some adjustments, the mClassic could make a great scaling partner with the OSSC and even PS2, GameCube and Wii HDMI adapters. If they release an mClassic 2 or something, I’d like to see versions of the Scaling On and Retro modes without all the damn filters. For 3D content, it can help in some regards. But on 2D content is looks horrendous. A simple upscaling without filters would have done the trick.
