It may be an idiotic idea / remark, but I really like the 45 ° scanline of the Neo Geo Arcade Stick Pro, it gives a more salient rendering (I think).

An even better solution would be an RGB triad overlay as used in Sonic Mania.
For each output pixel it reduces the intensity somewhat of two of the RGB components in turn (with some compensation for the difference in luminance between the RGB primaries to avoid tinting the picture too much). Combined with horizontal scanlines this very effectively mimics the look of a CRT.
