I’ve been playing some of my childhood PAL N64 games recently and would like to see a few more options for 288p in adaptive line multiplier mode.  Everything I’d like to achieve here I can do in scaler mode, but A-LM is what sold me on the OSSC Pro and it’d be great to have these additional scenarios catered for.

Firstly, a generic 16:9 sampling mode: N64 has a number of 240p/288p games with 16:9 anamorphic widescreen support.

Secondly, a 5x mode for 1080p output: 240p has a Line5x into 1080p option but 288p currently only goes up to Line4x for 1080p output.  As the majority of 288p console games are just a 240p image within a 288p frame 5x still makes sense because most of what you’re losing is just the black borders.

So these are the additional options I could see myself using with 1080p output:-

      • 288p Line4x, Generic 16:9 sampling.
        • For borderless PAL anamorphic-widescreen games, e.g. Donkey Kong 64.
      • 240p Line5x, Generic 16:9 sampling.
        • NTSC games with anamorphic widescreen support.
      • 288p Line5x, Generic 4:3 sampling.
        • For games that output 240p within a 288p frame.  There would be a huge amount lost to overscan at the top and bottom, but this would mostly be black borders with minimal loss of the actual image.  The “squashed” look of most PAL games would be preserved, but games where the proportions have already been corrected (such as Super Mario 64 and most 1st party N64 games with PAL borders) would display properly.
      • 288p Line5x, Generic 10:9 sampling.
        • To correct games that produce 240p within a 288p frame, and feature the traditional PAL “squashed” image.  This would “fix” the proportions.

I know most retro gaming enthusiasts prefer to seek out 60Hz versions of games – I do too for new purchases – but I still have a tonne of 50Hz console games from my younger days and they’d be very expensive to replace! 😅

Similar request was actually made elsewhere not long ago and it will be easy to add support at least for the following A-LM modes for 288p source:

        “1920×1080 (Line5x)”, “1600×1200 (Line5x)”, “1920×1200 (Line5x)”, “1920×1440 (Line6x)”, “2560×1440 (Line6x)”, “2880×2160 (Line9x)”. Have to see about the 16:9 sampling option.

Ah, brilliant to hear!  A-LM really is the killer feature of the Pro for me, so it would be great to see it gain more flexibility. 🙂
