I’d like to see a hybrid between nearest neighbor and bilinear scaling on the OSSC Pro.
What I’m thinking of is scaling that would effectively do the same thing as if the picture was first scaled using nearest neighbor to the nearest integer multiple of the input resolution that’s higher than the output resolution, and then downscaled from there to the output resolution using bilinear filtering. The necessary mutlipliers could be convolved into a LUT to simulate this.
If possible, the output pixels that are blended from two or four input samples rather than repeated would use gamma corrected values to produce the right luminance, again using LUTs (R’G’B’ -> linear RGB LUT -> addition and division of samples -> R’G’B’ LUT).
This would allow for razor sharp output filling the height of the screen, but without the irregularly sized source pixels caused by pure nearest neighbor scaling when the output resolution is not an integer multiple of the input resolution.
