I should start by saying that I bought this device hoping it would be the best s-video to RGBS transcoder on the market. Not exactly the main feature. But it’s what I wanted it for. And I was hoping it might also be the best YPbPr to RGBS transcoder as well. But my hopes for that were less than high.
I’m happy to say that with a couple extra pieces of hardware that it does handle s-video to RGBS conversion very well. But I still have to configure it to the desired mode every time I power it up. And I have to power it off if I don’t want it hogging my gscartsw’s attention with it’s color bars.
Are there some connections I can short to get it to boot into s-video pass-through mode? That would solve half my problems.
Is there anything I can do to get it to disable all video output unless there’s an active input? I don’t suppose there’s some JTAG interface access points I’m not seeing, are there? Can anybody recommend an HDMI to RGBS converter? The one I have is HDMI to RGBHV and therefore requires a sync combiner that I’d like to eliminate.
July 19, 2018 at 11:37 PM #22474No way to disable video output without valid input as far as I can see. It would be possible to set the default mode to S-video with a different firmware flash. There’s a programming port if you have a Microchip programmer (MPLAB ICD or PICKIT) and the TAG connect cable.
Haven’t seen a decent HDMI to RGBS converter. That might be on my to-do list one day!

July 20, 2018 at 6:56 AM #22479Hi Mike.
The ADV7280 decoder chip inside the RT2x has plenty of options to tweak as you know.
It would be very cool if you could build a small program that allows the user to tweak the parameters of the RT2x decoder and flash the PIC with the new firmware with the changed parameters. On page 70 of the ADV7280 decoder reference manual I see all the parameters that this decoder is capable of.

programming cable:

get the TC2030-PKT-NL modelpickit3 programmer:
or a chinese knock-off, but I’ve never tried it.
