So I have been testing out OSSC configurations for my PSX games as well as streaming them. I came across an unstable sync while playing Chrono Cross on default settings, specifically when going into party menu. OSSC cuts and gives me the red LED every time I go into the in-game menu. However, I played Legend of Dragoon and it works fine.

      This is my current set-up.

PSX SCART > OSSC > POWERED HDMI SPLITTER > MONITOR ASUS VH238H and PEXHDCAP

Any help or insight will be helpful…thanks!

Does the sync LED on the OSSC stay red, or does it sync back up? If it does come back, then what’s happening is a resolution switch. A lot of games of that generation used 240p for gameplay but 480i for menus. When using analogue video on a CRT, the switch is seamless; however, resolution switches over HDMI require devices to disconnect and redo a handshake, and this procedure can take a few seconds.

If you’re fine with targeting 480p for both 240p and 480i sources, you can try an EDID minder between the OSSC and your display; otherwise, there’s not much you can do beyond tracking down and paying exorbitant amounts of money for old video processors, like those by DVDO or TVOne, that can handle the resolution switches and scaling to 1080p.

Chrono Cross definitely switches to interlaced in menus. You might need to switch to bob-deinterlace for 480i if your monitor doesn’t take interlaced signal.

Appreciate all the quick responses! The red light does not stay, and I think you all are correct. The signal returns to the monitor when I get out of menu.

I’ll test out with the bob-deinterlace and see what happens.

Is there any other solution for this? Or I can’t just play Chrono Cross? 🙁

Bob deinterlace should bring the 480i signal up to 480p, which your display should be able to handle. Without something like an EDID minder or a presentation scaler, however, you will still have to deal with the resyncing during resolution changes.
