Hello !
The OSSC loses Sync when I try to run Timesplitters 2 on XBOX and I have no idea why.
The console is PAL, converted to NTSC to output 480p via YPbPr.
Other games work fine in 480p. Dashboard works fine (480i) and when I boot the game, I lose sync indefinitely.
In case it matters, the game is the “classic edition” PAL (though my Xbox is converted to NTSC, it can run PAL games, my other games are PAL)Why would Timesplitters 2 (or any game) be any different from other games ?!
I really don’t understand why.(I don’t have any other cable or console to do some testing)
Any idea ? Thanks in advance !
December 8, 2018 at 12:00 AM #24249The PAL version of TimeSplitters 2 doesn’t support 480p. You either have to play at another resolution or find the NTSC game/.xbe.
December 8, 2018 at 12:18 AM #24250That’s still weird as the game could run at 480i like Broken Sword or the dashboard do…
December 8, 2018 at 12:39 AM #24251What video mode does the OSSC say the game is running at?
December 8, 2018 at 12:50 AM #24252It doesn’t say anything, just “AV2 YPbPr No sync”
Again just to be precise, the dashboard runs @ 480i without issue, same goes for Broken Sword 3. So, the game not being 480p shouldn’t be an issue. To be even more precise :
The game use to work fine prior to softmodding the console
Other “Classic edition” games run fine (“Classic edition” is like “Player’s choice” for N64 or “Platinum” for PS1, I don’t know if you have that kind of games elsewhere, assuming you’re not for EU)December 8, 2018 at 1:40 AM #24253Does anything happen if you force 480p in the Dashboard and then launch the title?
To do this, at the Dashboard, hold LT, hold RT, and then click both sticks.
December 8, 2018 at 1:46 AM #24254Good thinking, but no, it doesn’t work.
Needless to say that I tried several things on the OSSC itself (messing with sync options, compatibility options and what not). I’ve changed some settings in the softmod menu itself as well, like “force PAL60” etc, so far no luck. This is very weird. It was a good idea though, I haven’t think of the “480p dashboard trick” yet, too bad it doesn’t work.
December 8, 2018 at 2:06 AM #24255Problem “solved” ! I re-installed the softmod and launched the game from the softmod menu and the game now runs and runs at 480p. I was trying to keep my console as “authentic” as possible that’s why I softmod it, converted it to be able to output 480p and remove the softmod, I guess I’ll have to keep this ugly dashboard then…
Neat bonus / weird fact : Now Broken Sword 3 runs at 480p too… I still don’t understand what was the issue, but it’s cool
Thank you for your help guys !

For future google search (it might be helpful to someone else someday):
Can I remove the softmod and still access HD signals ?
Answer : Yes ! Removing the softmod won’t cancel what you did with Enigmah, you can output 480p, 720p or 1080i even after deleting the softmodDecember 8, 2018 at 3:17 PM #24258Are you sure you’re getting a 480p signal from TimeSplitters 2? I remembered wrong, the PAL version of the game shouldn’t work with anything other then 576i. There are multiple reports of this and I can not get my copy of the game to work in any other mode, unless I change the default.xbe to the NTSC one.
December 8, 2018 at 4:30 PM #24259Yes, that’s definitely 480p, the picture is really sharp. I’ve changed some settings, maybe that’s how I got it to work. Here are my settings :
Video standard : NTSC M
Format : Widescreen
Enable 480p : Yes
Enable PAL-60 : Yes
Faster Refresh rate : Yes
Auto Switch : No
Multi-region mode : NTSC M
Force PAL-60 : YesOSSC screen says : “525p”, it says that will all 480p content, including dashboard forced into 480p mode. So yes, that’s definitely 480p for both TimeSplitter 2 and Broken Sword 3
December 8, 2018 at 4:38 PM #24260I’ve removed the Softmod to see what would happen and the game doesn’t work anymore (OSSC can’t sync). So one of those settings listed above can make PAL 480i games run at 480p.
December 8, 2018 at 7:05 PM #24264I use enigmah and set the Xbox to NTSC. That way all of the games are 480p and the dashboard is able to display in 1080i or 720p.
December 8, 2018 at 8:27 PM #24265Yes, me too but I have some games that can’t seem to run in 480p (it’s kind of fixed now, but that was the initial issue). Do you have TimeSplitters 2 ? If so, what happens if you run the game ? Does the OSSC says “no sync” ? Does it run in 480i ? or 480p ?
December 9, 2018 at 2:45 AM #24271I tried it there and it runs in 480p. The OSSC reports 525p @59.94Hz.
December 9, 2018 at 9:46 AM #24272Is it the PAL version? If so, is it the original or the Classic edition?
