      Hello,

so I’ve only used the OSSC fairly casually for years and am a bit of an electronics rube. I accidently used the wrong 9V AC. Nothing happened, it didn’t turn on. I noticed the 5V only sticker on the bottom after that and found the correct 5V AC that belonged to it. It once again didn’t turn on, but from the area around the AC connection a small plume of smoke rose. Left it to air on the balcony and tested it one more time later – now it turns on and works normally. So what could’ve happened? Is it still safe to use? From google I found mentions of checking D5 and F1. I *guess* D5 looks burst here?

Afaik: up until OSSC 1.6 D5 is for protective/ESD reasons. It delivers an alternative electrical path – for example: if you use a power supply with the wrong polarity.

D5 (SD05-7) is rated for a working voltage of 5V:

… so the 9V most definitely killed it. Your OSSC should work fine without it… but i would recommend to replace it with the same or a similar diode.
