I didn’t pay that for my OSSC setup as I got it second hand. But I can tell you that it will work with both standard VGA from the DB15 out or with breakout cables. Again I have a set of breakout cables that I use for both the DC input and for the VGA out as I felt (Likely a placebo effect), that the image was just a touch better with the breakout BNC cables.
It is your cable for sure if you lost a color for a bit and then it came back after messing with the cable. So I would replace the VGA cable from the Toro to the OSSC first.
I use an Extron 7SC for my retro consoles and it outputs as RGBHV. I have that into AV3 on my OSSC and do not recall having to flip any switches for that to work. I did find that with the Extron, it was best to set the OSSC to passthru mode for the 480p (What my extron upscales and outputs everything at), as that provided a slightly sharper picture than with line2x etc enabled.
But yes, if you have screen flipping and colors missing…that is a sign of a likely faulty cable.
I have this exact same setup myself now. I leave the 7SC in RGBHV and use a BNC to VGA 15pin breakout cable on the output. I found it to provide a slightly sharper picture than using the VGA 15pin out itself.
Anyway, I have it attached on AV3 and have the OSSC set to passthru for pretty much everything. I also locked the 7sc at 640×480 on its output and the OSSC and my TV do not have any issues with this setup. I only have the DC connected via VGA on the 7sc currently, but I’ve also tested with my Lynx and Game Gear via VGA and they were fine.
