You can get the NES to look okish via composite through the Koryuu Transcoder. That’s what I have and I am ok with it and how it looks on my LGBX TV. It takes a lot of finetuning of the OSSC but you can get a reasonable picture out of it and if you turn on the scan lines it helps to “define” or hide the low quality a little bit. Also, you dont need expensive cables for this setup, the video will go to the Koryuu via a normal composite cable, audio goes to the aux in of the OSSC and then the Kryuu gets connected via component (RCA) to the OSSC. The plus side of the Koryuu is that you can plug in your N64 via S-Video to it as well, the downside is that is not as sharp as RGB.
@Harrumph, that would be a good middle point, it’s just that the OSSC triggers my OCD when I leave it on. On the plus side, it prevents some wear to the power switch and also reduces power consumption while in the “sleep mode”.
Heyyy my LG BX does the same thing! I thought it was my koryuu as I haven’t noticed it with just the OSSC. My setup consist of an Otaku SCART switch that goes to the OSSC and the HDMI from OSSC to HDMI switch and then to the TV. I use cables from RetroGamingCables and short HDMI cables. Here’s a picture of the issue!
Yeah, I gave up with the N64 and run everything on the Generic 4:3 setting. For the PS1 I have 2 profiles a 240p with optimal timings and such and a generic one. I feel like most console you need more than 1 profile, for example I have 2 profiles for the Genesis and 2 for the SNES and like 3 for the Saturn. It’s just a matter of getting used to switching profiles as needed.
Hi,
I don’t have much to add as a solution but I’ve been experiencing the same issue (maybe). I have a koryuu and an OSSC. I use the koryuu for my NES via composite and the N64 via svideo. Both consoles are NTSC and I’ve been seeing the same loss of sync with my setup. I have an LG55BX TV and was able to take a screenshot of the issue. I was playing Shadows of the Empire and I kept losing sync whenever there were bright scenes. It happens fairly often and always happens when using the koryuu (I haven’t seen it happen when using the OSSC by itself). This is the link to the screenshot.
Looking forward to a solution!
