@ssaylanc I’ve seen somewhat similar artifacting in my setup in the past. It seemed to be linked to the video cable needing to be plugged in tighter and another time it was shoddy HDMI cables.

      Hope this helps!

        @BuckoA51

Sorry for the delayed response. I was a little under the weather for a few days.

That helps explain things about the masks needing 5x minimum. I was using 4x. I’ll get a higher multiple a try. Thanks!

Hey Marqs. The new mask presets are very intriguing. I tried them out however, and the end result I came up with was very unappealing and I’m pretty sure that I’m probably just not using them correctly.

Do you think you could post some base settings that you had in mind for using the masks? That way we have something we can work off of when trying them out.

I may have not been very clear with my explanation. I meant that it would just ignore part of the incoming (RGB, Component, etc) video signal immediately so those vertical lines in effect never existed in the first place. Basically instead of grabbing a 240p signal it’s like it would be grabbing a 120p signal but filling in the other 120p with emptyness.

I’m guessing this still won’t work, but I just wanted to clarify my point.

Gonna download 1.6 now. Those presets sound awesome!

So far testing is going pretty well.

My TV has trouble locking on to Line 6x @ 256 optimal unless I set the H.Active to 272. TV is a LG C1.

There may be an audio issue as well but I’m still trying to find out if that was a loose wire or an OSSC issue. It hasn’t happened for a few days now. I’ll report more if it seems like the OSSC.

Also I’m not sure if you saw my 2nd post above Marqs. Was just curious.

*Edit* Seems I can get a lock in 6x without increasing H.Active. It’s odd. Sometimes it works with the same setup and sometimes it doesn’t.

Hey Marqs, after using the firmware for a couple more days now. I’m still liking it a lot. I do prefer the Load/Save options to be near the top of Settings like they used to be so I can save faster, but that’s just me. I’m still trying things out, but so far so good.

On the topic of arcade hardware, something came to mind as a possible feature. I do remember you saying features are limited at this point, but I thought I would at least mention it, assuming it would even work.

When it comes to getting the Sample Rate of a PCB, this can be very difficult if the game doesn’t have proper test patterns. I’m unaware of any other way to make the game generate a test pattern if it’s not built into it.

I noticed when I was doing some Sample Rate testing and went into the Color Bleed section of the 240p Test Suite that the Color Bleed pattern clearly showed the signal on the screen the same way the Checkerboard pattern does. I realized with some more testing the signal can be seen when you have a near-black pixel to the left or right of a brighter pixel.

If the OSSC was somehow able to skip adding color to every other vertical line during capture, then I’m pretty sure this would create the same effect as the Checkboard pattern. Then you would just need a simple static screen on the arcade game, which a lot seem to have after you insert a coin.

I know this wouldn’t be a perfect setup, but I really think it could be very helpful compared to what is available right now, if it’s possible.

Do you think something like that could be done?

Sounds good Marqs. I don’t have those 2 PCBs at the moment but if that changes I’ll gladly test them.

Tried out the firmware and I’m loving it so far! The phase hotkey alone has made life so much easier.

Thanks for the reply and info. Also thanks for continuing to update the OSSC. Seems like so many products just get put out, then abandoned once they get their money. I really appreciate your dedication to your products.

Hey Marqs. I had a question and some feedback.

I’d like to test this mod but I wanted to check first. Both my OSSC units have the F3 mod done to them. As far as I’m understanding it, I can just remove that mod as it’s no longer needed? If it is still needed, then is this beta series mod compatible with the F3 mod? Just trying to be safe.

Also are there any specific use cases that you’re looking for? I think it would be good to let people know in the main post what you’re looking to have tested. I have way too many consoles, PCs and PCBs to test everything but if there was something specific you were looking for and I have the equipment then I could try it.

Also I had no idea this beta firmware was around until today. I think it might be worth at least mentioning it on the JunkerHQ site to let more people know this is going on because until today I honestly thought the OSSC was just kinda done being worked on.

Really glad to see these new changes 🙂

I did buy it from you but it was a long time ago so honestly I didn’t remember seeing any sheet but I’ll have to take a look for it since I kept the box it came in. Thanks Bucko!

Oh I definitely do! I just wanted to make the black lines bigger 😛

Ah okay. I was hoping to try out the scanlines a bit. I’ll have to look into other options.

                          Thanks for the info Bucko!

                            Hey Bucko,

As far as I know it should, if I understand how progressive scan works that is.

I normally use a scart to component converter and play that way without issue, but I was exploring options to make the black horizontal bars”scanlines” thicker as that is my end goal.

I was gonna link a page with the specs but couldn’t find any. It’s an AV-27WF35.

Hope you’re doing well man! Always nice to see you around.

                            *Edit*
I did find the manual online. It seems to indicate it won’t accept a 31KHz signal but I was thinking maybe that was for a 480p signal, not 240p. I should mention too, the TV picks up ‘passthrough’ mode and ‘line2x’. I was thinking the OSSC outputs 15KHz in passthrough mode, but maybe I’m wrong about that?

                              Hey Harrumph.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. You don’t happen to speedrun Secret of Mana do you?

Yeah I thought it would do fine with 720 as well. Fortunately the lag testing I did after turning off all the image processing features is very acceptable to me. I was thinking about if I could send it a 1080p signal that has then been down-scaled to 540p if that would be better, but I don’t know how much lag, if any down-scaling adds yet.

I’ll have to try 960×720, but I am doubtful. That’s unfortunate to hear that it probably won’t work. I would love to see what it looks like because the 2x looks fantastic. I always like to try new things though to see if I can find something even better lol.

The HDMI to component idea is intriguing. Maybe I will give that a shot and see what happens. Thanks for the suggestion!

I’ll keep at it and trying to educate myself more on this. Thanks again!

I swear I thought my reply to you went through. Weird.

Anyway, yes the analogue output and the HDMI output both have massively reduced volume levels. The analogue also only outputs to the right speakers. The HDMI might as well, but it was hard to tell because it was so quiet.

Do you think it could be the scart connector on the OSSC itself is maybe loose and has weak solder joints?

When I attempt to move the scart connector it feels like it is firmly in place.

Also, I have tried this using different scart cables and consoles and it is the same for all of them.

Thank you again for your help Bucko. Always appreciate your efforts!

Once again thanks to you and your friend for the help.

This was all I needed. I went ahead and did the installation and it seems to have gone great! The picture quality is just what I was hoping for. I’m very happy with the results!!

                                  Thank you!!!
