LCD Replacement for Gameboy Color – DIY Kit

With the bold and bright screens on modern handheld consoles and smartphones, it’s hard to believe we ever used to use the dark, unlit screens of our Gameboy Color consoles at all. Use them we did, however, and many of us have cherished memories of the fantastic range of games available on the system.

Now, you can have all those classic games back again on the original hardware, without having to squint and tilt your screen like it’s 1999 again. Replace the dated, dark original LCD with this new, vibrant model from McWill/JOVEMA technology, which will make playing Gameboy or Gameboy color games a lot more fun. Each kit contains 1 x replacement LCD screen and 1 x glass screen lens replacement. You can also upgrade your Gameboy to USB power by selecting the option above and then installing the supplied USB charger PCB.

The replacement screen is bright, vibrant and features a  2:1 integer scale of the original GBC resolution. The aspect ratio is the same as the original screen. Optionally, you can even add a VGA output connector and enjoy your Game Boy Color games on your big screen. To do this you will require a suitable VGA connector (not supplied). Your TV/display will also need a VGA input or the use of a suitable adapter, such as an OSSC.

Note – Some users have reported a minor judder/stutter effect in some games when using this LCD. We have reported this to JOVEMA technology and they are investigating a possible firmware upgrade. Even with this minor fault the LCD is much better than the original, of course.
