The TMS RGB V2 board is a new state of the art SMD designed add-on board for computers and games consoles based around the TMS9928A (NTSC) and TMS9929A (PAL) video graphics processing chip. This includes many popular machines from the 1980s such as the Colecovision Console, the MSX computer, Memotech MTX Series, Texas Ti99/4a, Sega SG-1000 console and SC-3000 computer. Basically, any system that uses the TMS video display processor is compatible with this mod. However is is NOT compatible with systems based on the TMS9918.
The board is compatible with both PAL and NTSC systems and adds no input lag. It provides both buffered, video-level C-sync and 5V TTL-level C-sync outputs, as well as on board 75Ohm termination options for the RGB signals.
Depending on your plans and target system you can purchase the mod here with a choice of either a 9 pin Mini-DIN connector (Sega Megadrive/Genesis 2 style), 8 pin Mini-DIN connector (popular on RGB modded NES, Atari and other systems, usually wired to this specification) or an 8 pin panel mount DIN connector (common on PC Engine consoles). If you already have a DIN connector or plan to do the installation differently, simply choose “not required” from the drop down menu above.
The mod is fully compatible with RetroTINK, OSSC, GB8200 and Framemeister, as well as classic CRT televisions and 15khz monitors, LCD or CRT. The board does NOT digitise, scale or otherwise alter the native TMS output, so a line doubler or scaler is required on non 15khz compatible displays (and strongly recommended on any flat panel/fixed resolution display).
This V2 board solves all the problems inherent in earlier RGB mods for the TMS VDP and consoles, such as incorrect black level, over-saturated blues and weak reds. The board also has a very small footprint so that it is easily fitted to the solder side underneath the TMS chip. It is very unobtrusive and no extra clearance is required. No permanent modification is required to the systems main-board and the mod is totally reversible.
Dazzling new video quality for your classic hardware
Our friends at BetaGamma Computing have installed this add-on board into both PAL and NTSC Colecovision consoles as well as Ti99/4a, Memotech MTX512 and various MSX systems with fantastic results in each case. The output is the cleanest and most correct yet produced by a TMS VDP, far superior to the usual Composite or RF outputs offered by these systems. If you want the best video quality achievable from your 100% original hardware, this is the board you need.
Perfect for Colecovision
The TMS-RGB is a significant improvement over the previous RGB mods for Colecovision. Fans of this classic console are advised to upgrade to the TMS-RGB today, even if you already fitted an RGB mod in the past.
