It’d be important to know if Pro’s HDMI audio output reproduces the same issue. There are many things that can wrong in OS sound mixing but those would be then audible on the digital output too. Please also try different sampling rates & resolutions on PC side. FYI: Pre-ADC gain only applies on analog audio inputs and makes no difference on digital sources.

I was not able to replicate this problem in my setup. I used a real N64 with a HDMI mod, output via vga and analogue audio on the extra AV out and the game “Ridge Racer N64” which was known to cause clipping on the Morph analogue bridge. I did not hear any clipping or distortion.

marqs: I haven’t had time to connect my PS2 to the OSSC Pro yet to test if the sound issues persist. I can only test my PCs speakers though when connecting the Ps2 to the OSSC Pro to test the HDMI out. But yes, it’s something worth ruling out.

keckstier: I turned off all windows effects, including loudness equalization because they serverely dampened the sound quality. I also tested each, bass enhancement, loudness equalization, device default effects, third party equalizers etc…and the clipping persists whether they are used or not. Also it’s not only N64 emulation that has these sound issues. Everything produces those, whether it’s other platforms’ sound or watching youtube, listening to musik or watching a movie in Windows 11.

Also switching between 48000 and 192000 Hz either in windows or on the ossc or in retroarch itself didn’t change anything.

          Bucko: Thx for trying.

I had the same issue with retro arch in windows 11 pro and n64Glide (the emulator driver for n64)… the main solution is to set the “audio synchronisation” to ON… and then you have yet audio clipping and distortions you set the 2 parameters, which control the audio synchronisation, so long until your distortions are gone… Buffer for audio synchronisation is in default 64 ms, but when you have with active audio synchronisation distortions yet, you set it to 128 ms or higher! Maybe you get a bigger input lag in sound, for my opinion in 128 ms is not recognizable…
When this would not help, you can try to synchron cpu and gpu, find in the video section of retro arch… this force, cpu and gpu are completely synchron… (the cause for audio clipping and distortion are that the cpu is faster or slower than the gpu in most of the cases)

It’s a latency issue for sure… Look for a option or feature to set the latency of your soundcard / soundchip… your latency is to low so the sound clips or stops… set the latency to maximum for test…
With the “great” windows 10 / 11 pro something you can’t set the latency in default, you have to use tools to go deeper in the settings of your audio output… seek in google for: “latency setup, latency setting etc. pp. “
