Any update on this getting implemented? I still can’t put the horizontal overscan mask higher than 63 pixels on the newest firmware. At line 5x I can raise the vertical mask high enough.
Here’s a picture for reference. CRT on the left, HDTV + OSSC on right
Overscan mask imageMy Omega CMVS seems to work fine on my OSSC without changing any settings, though I haven’t tried using it in a ‘stock’ scenario.
I modded mine to output csync rather than composite video for sync, and it’s also going through an Extron CrossPoint AV switch, which does some kind of processing on sync signals (it requires csync on input).October 11, 2017 at 9:54 PM in reply to: OSSC sync issues combined with Extron crosspoint Ultra 168 #15915I believe it means it processes to bring it within TTL spec or something if I recall correctly. I have a Extron Crosspoint 1616 HVA and it works fine with my CPS1 and CPS2 boards, though I did put a 470 ohm resistor in line on sync coming out from the Extron going to the OSSC. It worked without it, but the resistor brings it down to 75 ohm termination spec voltage (I might have some of the terminology wrong. I’m basically repeating what I’ve read elsewhere). I didn’t know if it’d be stressing the OSSC if I used it long term without the resistor due to the Crosspoint outputting TTL level sync, which I don’t think the SCART connection on the OSSC is expecting.
August 29, 2017 at 2:36 PM in reply to: Increase limit on Horizontal Mask (overscan) (Game Gear TV-out) #14822Game Gear “overscan” area when using TV-out mods is larger than a normal CRT overscan area. It’s visible even on a CRT. It’s kinda like playing Gameboy games on Super Gameboy, except instead of nice borders you’ve got garbage colors and such depending on the game.

I don’t know what the OSSC firmware looks like code wise, but I’d assume this is probably as minor as changing a couple of values in the code to set a higher limit.August 16, 2017 at 9:20 PM in reply to: Scanline bug in 480p/512p line 2x (too many scanlines) #14464Actually just had a discussion about this with Fudoh over on the Shmups forum. I’d never realized 480p on a CRT would have (much thinner) scanlines.
In this case I think it’d be highly relevant to have an option to switch between the amount of scanlines in 480p/512p line 2x mode. I’m sure I’m not the only one here wanting 240p style scanlines on line 2x 480p (and 512p) that was originally a 240p asset game itself.* Added “Allow upsample2x” option to replace pixel repetition in certain modes
Can you elaborate on a scenario where this would be helpful?
* A number of minor bugfixes
Just wondering if you can provide the details. I’m a thorough guy in my testing so I’m just curious if any of the minor bugs fixed are things I might’ve encountered. 🙂
I just updated from 0.76 to 0.77 and now my Samsung 46″ LED is doing line 4x (previously only went up to line 3x) 😀
I did notice something odd though in my short amount of testing. Some systems work in 5x as well, but the NES does not….unless I change TX mode from HDMI to DVI. That makes 5x work on NES, but it also stops HDMI audio :\. I didn’t know there’s a possible firmware workaround for this.Has there been any more details or findings on this?
The same thing happens with my RGB modded NES when used on a XRGB3 as well. However, on the XRGB3 I can adjust the “AFC Level” setting and that fixes it. I don’t really know what that setting means, but didn’t know if adjusting it is something that could be replicated on the OSSC.EDIT: Went and rechecked when using the XRGB3 and it seems it was cutting off some of the overscan. When I made it show all of it at the top, there was still some slight distortion even after adjusting the AFC level, but it was significantly fewer lines affected than when using the OSSC.
Using the vertical mask to hide it does make it less annoying, but then I’m annoyed (to a lesser extent) by the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen :P. -
